Before I had kids, Mom’s Night Out was just a regular Girl’s Night and it pretty much took place whenever we wanted. It’s fun to chill with your girlfriends, have a few cocktails and party the night away! The difference is that once you and your friends have children, everything changes. You can’t just take off at the drop of a hat and head out for happy hour anymore (at least not without someone calling the authorities). You have to coordinate your schedules, make plans for hubby to be home or find someone else to watch the kids. However, now you need that glass of wine with your friends more than ever, especially if you happen to have an active toddler at home like I do! When we moved to Florida, I hardly knew anyone but I met this awesome group of ladies and we have a much needed Mom’s Night Out every month.
If you haven’t had your own Mom’s Night Out lately, here’s why you need one ASAP…
1. You can get all fixed up
I don’t know about you, but when I’m at home with the kids, yoga pants are my staple. Yes, I know it’s cliché but have you ever worn yoga pants? They are REALLY comfortable! I’ll even brush my teeth and put my hair in a ponytail but I don’t bother with makeup or the straightening iron unless we’re actually going out and about (and even then it’s questionable). That’s why it’s so fun to actually have a night out. You fix your hair, put on makeup and wear one of your cute outfits that don’t often see the light of day. The best part? You get to throw on those heels that have been feeling very lonely in the back of your closet, just waiting for a date with you!
2. Someone waits on you for a change
Let’s face it. A mommy has many jobs and one of them is waiting on her kids 24/7. I don’t actually mind it most of the time but after a day of “Mommy, I’m hungry” or “Mommy, I just spilled my milk all over the floor”, it’s really nice to have someone bring YOU food (that you didn’t have to cook) and clean up any messes.
3. You can have grown up conversations
I love chatting with my two little ones about the everyday things that kids share. While I do get the chance to talk about grown up stuff when my hubby is home, he certainly doesn’t want to listen to me talk about how hot Clooney is or who we think should have been cast in 50 Shades of Grey (yes guys, these are some of the earth shattering things we girls talk about). The funny thing is that we often end up talking about our children much of the time, despite the fact that we’ve just spent the whole day looking forward to some time away from them!
4. There’s No Yelling
Unless you and your friends star on “The Real Housewives Of (fill in the blank)”, it’s fun to be around people who all get along. Nobody is complaining that someone else got more wine than they did or throwing tantrums because even though they asked for chicken, they suddenly don’t like chicken anymore! It’s nice to sit back and take off the referee hat for awhile.
5. You Just Need To Get Out Of The House
Even on those nights when the girls go to bed and my hubby and I are relaxing, I’m always throwing one last load in the washer or putting away the dishes. Even if I try to sit on the sofa and watch a show, I’ll suddenly notice that the entertainment center is dusty…of course I can’t let that go! The only way to completely relax is to just get myself out of the house!
So what are you waiting for? Grab your phone, call your best girlfriends and plan a Mom’s Night Out (and have a drink for me)!
