You can’t have Valentine’s Day without sweets, right? These deliciously easy Valentine hearts make the perfect holiday treat for friends, teachers or anyone else who deserves a little love!
I think I may have gotten a little out of control with the Valentine’s Day sweets! I swear I didn’t mean to but here’s what happened. When I was making marshmallow treats for my edible Valentine’s Day cups, I realized that I had made twice as much as I really needed. I decided to come up with plan B and that’s when I remembered that I had some heart shaped cookie cutters that needed to be broken in. Hmm…heart shaped marshmallow treats sound pretty good to me!
How To Make Easy Valentine Hearts
It wasn’t hard because I’d already done most of the work. I’d melted butter in a saucepan, added marshmallows and pink food coloring, then once it was completely melted, added the crispy cereal. I also threw in a few sprinkles just for fun.
After flattening it out on a cutting board (not easy with a concoction this sticky), I used a cookie cutter to make Valentine hearts.
I still felt like they needed a little something extra. When in doubt, I always pull out the candy melts. My Valentine hearts looked much prettier with red, pink and white candy drizzled over the top.
Maybe it’s the Virgo in me but I still wasn’t quite satisfied. I felt like they still needed on more thing. Luckily I’d picked up this cute conversation heart mold last time I was at the store. I knew it would come in handy for something and I was right. Plus, it gave me yet another excuse to use candy melts! When you make these, be sure not too fill the molds all the way. My first batch was too thick and looked to big on the Valentine hearts but the thin ones were just right.
I used a drop of the leftover candy melts to hold the conversation hearts in place.
These cute Valentine hearts are so perfect for teacher gifts, neighbors or anyone else that you want to share with. I also love making these treats because you can change them up for any holiday. I’ve already done Fourth of July stars and sports themed treats for Father’s Day and now I’m thinking shamrocks for St. Patty’s Day. They’re easy to make and everybody I know loves them so you really can’t go wrong!
Print the recipe
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 bag (10oz) marshmallows
- 5 cups crispy cereal
- Pink food coloring
- Valentine sprinkles
- ¼ cup white candy melts
- ½ cup red candy melts
- ½ cup pink candy melts
- Melt ¼ cup butter in large saucepan over medium heat
- Add marshmallows and stir frequently
- Once marshmallows begin to melt, add 2-4 drops of pink food coloring
- Continue stirring until smooth, then add cereal and mix together
- Roll out the mixture on a lightly floured cutting board and cut out hearts with a cookie cutter
- Melt candy in microwave, one color at a time, and drizzle over hearts
- Add remaining red and pink melted candy to the conversation heart candy mold, just covering the bottom
- Refrigerate until hard (approx 10 minutes) then use leftover melted candy to "glue" the conversation hearts to the front of the crispy hearts
