Want to surprise your family with a fun Easter dessert? They’ll love these delicious Marshmallow Krispie Easter Egg Treats and you’ll love that they’re so easy and require just a few ingredients.
I’ve seen so many cute Easter treats online that I decided it’s about time I made some of my own. As I was walking through the Easter section at the store the other day, I saw these Easter egg holders. Only they didn’t look like Easter Egg holders to me…I saw molds and I knew I could make something good!
Since everyone in my family loves marshmallow krispies so much, I decided to surprise them with these fun Easter egg treats. I always like good easy recipes with a short list of ingredients. These were perfect…all I needed was krispie cereal, marshmallows, a little butter, milk chocolate chips and colorful candy melts.
Marshmallow Krispie Easter Egg Treats
The first thing you’ll need to do is make your “eggs”. You can usually find this recipe right on the cereal box and I halved it. Start by melting 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter over low heat. Next add two cups of mini-marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat and stir in three cups of krispie cereal.
Use the egg holder/mold to mold your mixture into egg shapes. This can be a little tricky since it gets pretty sticky but I found that flouring my hands helped a lot. I made them flat on the bottom so that they’d lay flat while I decorated them.
Melt 10 ounces of milk chocolate chips (or dark chocolate if you prefer) in the microwave, stirring frequently. Then dip the top side of each egg in the chocolate and lay on wax paper.
Melt your candy melts in the microwave, one color at a time. I’ve tried drizzling with regular spoons, candy spoons and even with the corner cut off a plastic baggie. I’ve found that I get the best results when I use these inexpensive plastic squeeze bottles. I just melt the candy and pour it into the bottles using a small funnel (It’s best to have a few so that you don’t have to rinse them out in between every color). They worked perfectly for decorating these eggs.
I’d thought about adding sprinkles or other candy decor but these looked so pretty with just the drizzled candy that I left them as is. Feel free to go all out with your own.
My hubby broke all the rules and ate dessert before dinner when he saw these! They were a pretty big hit with my sweets loving five year old too. My oldest isn’t a big fan of chocolate (not sure how that’s even possible) so I saved a few plain ones for her. That’s fine with me…more chocolate for the rest of us!
