After our granite selection went smoothly and we reached quick decisions on the cabinets and flooring, we were on a roll…nothing can stop us now! Those were major decisions so everything else should be a piece of cake, or so I thought! You know the phrase “Don’t sweat the small stuff”? Well, that’s exactly what I did!
(If you’ve missed anything along the way, you can find the full series here)
Who would have thought that a simple thing like cabinet hardware could give me such headaches? They’re just little pieces of metal…it’s not brain surgery. This should be the kind of thing where you hit the store, pick something that you like and bam, it’s done. Not in this case though. For some reason, I had the hardest time choosing something and when I asked my husband for help, he just told me to pick whatever I want. Normally I would LOVE that response except in this case I have no idea what I want!
I knew I didn’t want knobs but that was it. I went to Lowe’s, Home Depot, then back to Lowe’s again. My three year old tried to help by insisting that we needed the “diamond” hardware…no thanks! I even looked online but felt like it was something that I needed to see in person. I finally just decided on the standard straight pull and left it at that…and then I didn’t leave it at that. After more thought, I decided that look was too “cold” and picked out a curved pull. However, I still felt like that was kind of boring (we CAN’T have boring!) and finally chose a curvy pull that was a little different but not over the top. I have no idea why this seemingly easy decision was so hard for me but all I know is that I don’t want to look at cabinet hardware again for a VERY long time!
While it wasn’t quite the headache that the hardware was, it also took me awhile to pick out my kitchen and bath faucets. There are so many to choose from and like the cabinets, they all start to look the same after awhile. I finally made my choices and passed them along to my contractor. A few days later he called me and told me that I had to use a specific brand…back to the drawing board! This time I tried not to spend so much time comparing them and just picked some. I think they’ll look just fine!
In the meantime, it looks like a bomb has gone off in the house! Cabinets are ripped off the walls, the dining room is cluttered with old appliances and there are toilets in the bathtubs (which the girls think is the funniest thing they’ve ever seen)! I don’t know how people do this while actually still living in their house…I would most definitely lose my mind!
Next week let’s talk about this sad little Charlie Brown palm tree…and if you look closely in the background, you can see an uninvited visitor that nearly gave me a heart attack!!!
