So who would have thought that this home renovation would leave me with toilets in the tub and snakes on the porch…it almost sounds like the start of a Jeff Foxworthy joke! Like I’ve said before, it’s probably better that I had no idea what I was getting myself into!
(If you’ve missed anything along the way, you can find the full series here)
The great news is that once things get rolling, they really get rolling! It’s very exciting to visit the house each day to see what’s new! We chose our countertops so long ago that I had almost forgotten what they looked like but they were finally installed last week and look AMAZING! Also, remember how I was driving myself insane trying to pick out the cabinet hardware? Well, the cabinets are in, hardware and all, and couldn’t be happier with my decision!
The interior is very close to being finished. Our appliances get delivered this week, plumbing fixtures will be installed and bathroom mirrors hung on the walls. There’s not much left after that…our renovations will be complete and this fixer-upper will officially be fixed up! In the meantime, the exterior has been finished and looks a thousand percent better than it did. The “Banana Cream” color turned out to be just what we wanted and I’m very excited to say that our neighbors WON’T have to wear sunglasses when they walk past our house! I’m also really happy with the new landscaping. Enough talking…I’ll let you see for yourself!
Remember my sad little Charlie Brown tree? It’s finally gone and I have a real palm tree to take its place (although maybe I’ll still decorate it for Christmas).
You can never have too many palm trees if you live in Florida!!! I love the pygmy palms so I had more planted at the side of the garage (and they’ll look even prettier once they grow a little taller).
We had all the bushes at the back and to the side of the pool ripped out. They were just too big and “bushy” and yes, very ugly! We added another palm tree (like I said before, you can’t have too many) and some new bushes. These will grow to give us some privacy but they’ll be prettier and won’t be nearly as tall and overwhelming as the other ones.
Finally, the swamp is gone (I was getting worried that I might start finding turtles and gators) and we have a swimming pool that we actually want to swim in! The lanai floor was also freshly painted, all the screens were replaced and a safety gate was installed for our very active 3 year old. We bought our lounge chairs earlier this week and I’m planning to spend a lot of time relaxing in mine this summer!!! Now I just need to hire someone to come by with margaritas and snacks every so often!
The garage needed some work so the garage doors were replaced, new lighting installed and the floor was painted as well.
The ceiling on the front porch was worn and peeling so we had it replaced with vinyl and also installed a new patio light.
This was also the scene of the crime where I had my frightening snake encounter. I was actually taking the “before” picture above when I looked down and very nearly stepped right on top of him! So I leave you with one final before/after picture this week…
I’m sure hoping that I don’t run into this guy again!!!
Don’t forget to stop by next week for some before & after pictures of the inside of the house…I can’t wait to show you what it looks like now!
