If you've never been to Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party, here's why you can't miss this special Disney World annual event!

Thanks so much to Disney for inviting me and my family to experience the magic of Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party! This post contains affiliate links but like always, all opinions are my own.

I have no idea why it took us so long to get to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween! I've been hearing about this event ever since we moved to Florida and some of my friends say this is the one Disney event that they never miss.  Somehow we never had the chance to go last year but I wasn't going to let that happen again!   I couldn't wait to join the party and see for myself why everyone loves it so much!

If you've never been, you can get discounted tickets at Undercover Tourist before you go (so you'll have more money to spend on those Dole Whips). Then you'll find out just what makes Disney's Not So Scary Halloween such a can't miss event!

The Fun Costumes

I knew that a lot of children would be dressing up and we even stopped and bought a new costume for Keira on the way (Ashling settled for being a cat because we wouldn't buy her the $175 costume she really wanted).  However, I had no idea so many adults dressed up as well!  Many of them went all out and I was pretty impressed with the creativity.  I made a mental note to step up my game for next year and come dressed in a cool costume too!  On another note, I have no idea why Keira looks like she's trying to catch flies in this picture.  This seems to have become her new favorite pose!

Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular

The Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus are the hostesses of this fun show that features villains from a variety of Disney movies.  We saw The Shadow Man, Captain Hook, Malificent and The Evil Queen, just to name a few.  Despite the fact that this show starred Disney villains, true to the party name it was "not so scary".  The show was great but I also love how they transformed Cinderella's castle into a creepy Halloween castle covered in spiderwebs!

Ashling and I loved the show but poor little Keira was passed out by then.  You may want to learn from my mistakes and see the earlier show if you have small children.  She was still so active at 9 pm that I was convinced she'd be up all night...you just never know.

Boo To You Parade

Pay attention because just before the parade begins, you can catch a glimpse of the Headless Horseman galloping down the street.  It was very cool sight to see.  Not long after that, the parade begins and while Disney always has top-notch parades, this one is fun because of the special Halloween theme.  Mickey, Minnie and other characters are dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes and you'll also see characters that aren't in the regular parade, including one of my favorites, Captain Jack Sparrow!

Happy Hallowishes

I always love Disney's fireworks show and this one has a villain theme, of course.  The fireworks explode to songs like Poor Unfortunate Souls from The Little Mermaid and Oogie Boogies Song from The Nightmare Before Christmas.  Find a good spot and prepare to be dazzled!

Special Disney Character Appearances

Wander throughout the park and you'll be able to take pictures with Disney characters that only come out for this event.  Some of the most popular are Jack Skellington and Sally, Cruella De Vil and The Seven Dwarfs, though there are many more!  Just check out the Disney map to see where all the meet & greets take place.

Candy

Grab a trick-or-treat bag (Disney provides them) and fill it with candy at one of the trick-or-treat stations throughout the park.  This is like the house on the corner that you want to visit because they give out the good stuff...meaning lots of chocolate!  They even gave me a trick or treat bag so I didn't have to steal candy from my kids when they fell asleep.

Shorter lines

What could be better than shorter lines at Disney World?!  The park is less crowded during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party so of course that means shorter lines!  That's almost worth it alone!  For the shortest lines, plan to see the Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular and Boo To You parade later. Ride the attractions while the earlier shows are going on.  That was our strategy and we walked right on to Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin not once, but twice. We walked on to several other rides as well.  That being said, my youngest fell asleep and my 8 year old was so tired for the later shows that we'd probably wouldn't do that next time.  However, if you have older kids, it's the way to go!

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party definitely lived up to all the hype.  My girls and I had a blast and this will be on our must-do list every year.  I'll just be sure to wear a cool costume next time!

Updates 9/1/17: If you're planning to visit, you can find discounted tickets through Undercover Tourist.
