Disney inspiration was everywhere at the 2018 Social Media Moms Celebration. Find out all about it in the 2018 #DSMMC Day Three Recap!
I was invited to attend the 2018 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration at a discounted media rate. All opinions (and my love for all things Disney) are completely my own!
If you’ve ever wondered what happens at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, I’ve been sharing the 2018 recap. Every day is a different adventure…some are spent at park events and others are “conference” days, though many are both! If you’ve missed the first two posts, you can check out the DSMMC Day One and Day Two recaps here. Or to read all about 2017 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, check this out.
2018 #DSMMC Day Two Recap
Day three started off with yummy breakfast sponsored by Alamo where we had the chance to meet some of our favorite Disney Jr. characters. Sofia The First was there, as well as Jake from Jake And The Neverland Pirates.
After breakfast, it was time for the first of two main general sessions. I had no idea that Disney could pack so much inspiration into just a few hours (okay, I had a little idea because they’d done it last year too!)
Creative Inspiration
The general session began with Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
He started by sharing the latest news on Toy Story Land and what we could expect to see when it opens June 30th. I think I’m going to have some trouble getting my youngest off the Slinky Dog Roller Coaster!
We’re all excited about Toy Story Land but there’s also plenty of buzz about Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, opening next summer in Orlando’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland. My family is beyond excited about it and hearing all the details just had me looking forward to it even more. The Star Wars inspired hotel alone is going to be worth the trip. It’s going to be a fully immersive experience…every window looks out into the galaxy and guests will be invited to dress like their favorite Star Wars character. Guess I’ll have to get my six year old a wookie costume!
That’s just the start though! Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is going to be an experience unlike any other. If you’ve ever wanted to be dropped into the middle of a Star Wars movie, this is about as close as you can get! Visitors are transported to the land of Batuu, a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge. New attractions will allow you to take over the Millenium Falcon to conduct a secret mission while another adventure has you in the middle of a battle between the Resistance and the First Order.
There’s still a lot of work to get done before Galaxy’s Edge is ready for next summer’s big reveal but here’s a sneak peek…
I’m always in awe of the creativity of Disney’s imagineers and can’t wait to see this when it’s finished!
Artistic Inspiration
Next up was David Roark, Manager of Creative Photography for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. Though he makes it look easy, he shared what goes into the amazing photos he takes, including this awesome shot that he put together last minute.
He’s also responsible for some amazing shots taken in and around the parks, like this picture of the newborn baby hippo in Animal Kingdom. How adorable is this?!
Terry Cox, Manager of Search Engine Marketing shared his knowledge of SEO and we learned more about taking our content to the next level from Babble’s Senior Editor, Amy Stanford. Vera Sweeney of Lady And The Blog also made an appearance to talk about the importance of family travel.
Culinary Inspiration
Next it was time for a little treat! We were presented with Rose Gold Cupcakes and of course I had to take a little taste. However, when all was said and done, there was nothing left but a few crumbs! Trust me…it’s TOTALLY worth the calories!
Charitable Inspiration
After our sugar rush, we heard from John Breckow, Director of Corporate Citizenship for Walt Disney Parks And Resorts. When you think of Disney, Mickey Mouse and the theme parks are usually the first things that come to mind. However, there’s a lot that Disney does behind the scenes that many don’t even know about.
From sending Mickey and Minnie to visit Children’s Hospitals to working with the Make A Wish Foundation fulfilling tens of thousands of wishes, Disney makes magic so that they can make a difference. In fact, since 1980 they’ve granted more than 120,00 wishes and continues to grant 10,000 wishes per year from around the world.
Disney also partners with Points Of Light, a non-profit organization that encourages family volunteerism. Through this partnership, they donate theme park tickets to be used for contest prizes, fundraisers, rewards for volunteers and any other ways that encourage people to volunteer within the community.
Our final speaker was a closely guarded secret. Last year GoGo Squeez surprised us with an appearance by Olympic gymnast Dominique Dawes so I was looking forward to seeing who would be speaking on their behalf this year. As a huge fan of Stranger Things, I was thrilled when Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) walked out on stage. He was extremely articulate for a 16 year old and it’s amazing how much he’s already accomplished in life. I’m pretty sure that my proudest accomplishment at 16 was scoring tickets to a Duran Duran concert!
Sponsor Showcase
After the general session, we enjoyed lunch and the sponsor showcase. After having my photo taken with my new best friend Caleb, I headed straight for Joffrey’s coffee. I already love their coffee but this wasn’t just any cup of coffee…this was a work of art. It was almost to pretty to drink…almost. If you’re wondering, it tasted as good as it looked!
I swung by the Babybel display and picked up more cheese to snack on. If you’ve never had Babybel cheese, you are seriously missing out! I was hoping to take one of these home but sadly, they weren’t edible.
I made sure to stop by the Fresh Express table to pick up a yummy salad too! I’m always grabbing their salad kits from the grocery store…they make life so easy!
After that, I checked out the Wrinkle In Time exhibit! Sadly Oprah wasn’t there but it was still pretty cool!
After the sponsor expo, I met up with my friend Kristie for some park hopping before heading to Hollywood Studios. We were going to finish off the night with Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular, my favorite of all the fireworks shows at Disney.
It was spectacular as always but when it finished, we had to call it a night. The next morning we were heading out for the second part of the 2018 DSMMC Land & Sea, a cruise on board the Disney Dream!
