This is a sponsored post written on behalf of Bar-S. As always, all opinions are my own.
Did you know that one in six kids in our country don’t get enough to eat on a daily basis? Find out how Bar S and No Kid Hungry have teamed up to change all that and build our future by helping kids in need.
You may not have known but today marks the first day of Hunger Action Month. It’s a month to spread the word and help fight the hunger crisis. It may seem hard to believe, but 1 in 6 kids in America don’t get enough to eat. As a mother of two, I can’t imagine my girls worrying about where their next meal is coming from. Though 13 million hungry children is a staggering number, Bar-S and No Kid Hungry are working together to turn it around.
One problem is that while we think of summer as a time for fun and play, somee children have a different experience. Instead of wondering what game they’re going to play next, they’re worried about what they’re going to eat. In summer, they don’t have access to the free lunches they get during the school year. Even when school starts again, many of these same children show up hungry because they don’t have access to a healthy breakfast.
Three out of four teachers say they have students who come to school hungry. As a former teacher, this doesn’t surprise me. However, we need to band together because these children are the leaders, innovators and problem solvers of tomorrow. Going to school hungry affects not only their health but also their ability to succeed. By making sure that these children have access to healthy food, we’re helping them focus on learning and working towards a better future for themselves.
Helping Kids In Need
That’s why Bar-S is stepping in to help. They’ve pledged to work with No Kid Hungry to provide one million meals to hungry kids by the end of 2017. Yes, one million! I love when I hear about this kind of thing and if more companies did the same, we could probably wipe out hunger completely. At least Bar-S has gotten us off to a great start. They know that they are helping to build our future by helping kids in need.
Now I feel even better about buying Bar-S products. My girls are big fans of their hot dogs, especially little Keira. I always have a pack in my freezer for a quick and easy dinner. They’re perfect for those days that I don’t have time to cook from scratch!
Hopefully one day we won’t have to worry about kids going hungry in our country. Until that day comes, it feels good to know that organizations like No Kid Hungry and Bar-S are joining the fight to help. It takes a village, right?
