When I saw that The Lion King Musical was coming to town, I knew it couldn’t be missed! Find out why you should add this awesome Van Wezel production to your must-see list!
Thanks to the Van Wezel for providing tickets in exchange for my review. All opinions (and my love for The Lion King) are 100% my own.
As a Disney fan, I was really excited when I found out that The Lion King was coming to the Van Wezel in Sarasota. I’d seen the hit Broadway show over 15 years ago in Atlanta and still remember what an amazing experience it had been! I wanted my daughter Ashling to share that same experience so we decided to make a mommy/daughter date out of it.
Why The Lion King Musical Is A Must See
I was glad we did because this show did not disappoint! From the moment the curtain went up, our eyes were glued to the stage. Be sure you’re not late because you do NOT want to miss the opening song, Circle Of Life.
I’ve seen a LOT of musicals but The Lion King is unlike any other musical out there. It’s not just the performers that are the stars of the show…the costumes, the sets and of course the music all come together to make this production truly magical. One of the things I love most is how the performers make the animals seem so lifelike. From towering giraffes to baby elephants, it’s fascinating to watch!
Of course, it wouldn’t be The Lion King without the music and all our favorite songs from the movie were in the show. From I Just Can’t Wait To Be King to Can You Feel The Love Tonight, it was hard not to sing along.
There are also a few bonus songs not found in the original movie. These include They Live In You featuring Mufasa and The Madness Of King Scar, with Scar and his creepy hyena friends. While I always enjoy the favorites, these new songs made the show even more epic.
At the end of the night, Ashling and I both agreed that the show was spectacular! If you live in Sarasota, you’re not going to want to miss it. It’s great for date night with the hubby or a fun night with the kids. You’ll have to get your tickets soon though because the show only runs through March 31st.
