It’s always nice to show teachers some appreciation and now with Crayola’s new initiative, you can thank a teacher and win (and the teacher wins too). Keep reading to find out how!
Back To School
Nothing gets the school year off to a great start like knowing you’ve got great teachers! We love both my daughter’s teachers but had even more reason to get excited when we found out which class my oldest was assigned to. She was so happy to find out that one of her favorite fourth grade teachers had looped up and would now be her fifth grade teacher too. Since Ashling is very quiet and shy, knowing that she was starting the year with a teacher she already liked was awesome news for all of us.
We’ve been lucky to have had some wonderful teachers over the years. Last year I found out that the teachers had assigned a bench to be the “buddy bench” at recess. Children who didn’t have anyone to play with could sit on the bench, then other children would come over and invite them to play. I knew Ashling was too shy to initiate friendships on her own and couldn’t have been happier to find out that she’d utilized the buddy bench and classmates had invited her to play.
I made sure to let the teachers know how much that had meant to us. I’m a firm believer in thank you notes because when I was a teacher, I always felt so loved when I received them from students and parents. They meant a lot to me that I still have many of them to this day.
I’ve encouraged my own girls to do the same. Since Ashling was so happy about getting a teacher she loved, she wrote a thank you note of her own.
Crayola’s Thank A Teacher Contest
Crayola knows how important these thank you notes are too. Last May, on National Teacher Appreciation Day, they launched their Thank A Teacher initiative. This program encourages families to thank teachers for their commitment to educating students and sparking their creativity. They’re inviting kids across the country to write one million thank you notes to teachers from July 1st to August 25th.
All students have to do is create and upload handmade thank you notes for their teachers. They could win awesome prizes for their families, teachers and their schools too. Ten winners will be awarded prize packs that include the following:
- $10,000 classroom makeover for the teacher
- One year supply of Crayola products for the school
- $1,000 scholarship for the student
- $1,000 gift card for both the teacher and school
- Free CreatEd seminar for the school
One lucky grand prize winner will have their thank-you note featured on a box of Crayola Crayons over the holiday season. How cool is that! There’s a weekly contest too. The winners of this prize will be awarded $500 gift cards for both themselves and their teachers.
Your child’s teacher will already feel like a winner when your child gives them a hand written thank you note. Some extra prizes sure wouldn’t hurt though, right?
