Keeping my kids entertained is a full time job sometimes, especially during the summer. Luckily both of my girls really love to read so I encourage it as much as I can. What’s even more fun is when we can tie our books in with cute crafts or easy to make recipes.
The Adventures Of Rockford T. Honeypot
That’s why I’m loving The Adventures Of Rockford T. Honeypot. It’s a super cute story about a little chipmunk setting off on a big adventure. Here’s the synopsis:
As a young chipmunk, shy, bookish Rockford T. Honeypot had dreams of thrilling adventures across the forest. However, timid of danger and germs, his only adventures were found in books and his imagination.
When his family abandons him after a mistake that destroys their hazelnut business, Rockford sets off on a legendary journey beyond his wildest dreams. From exploring cuisines with a famous chef, training with ancient warrior monks, flying on giant hawks, finding true love, and much more, Rockford recounts his epic origin story of hardship, perseverance, and fortune.
About the author:
Los Angeles native Josh Gottsegen has a background in filmmaking and digital media and is the author of “Joosh’s Juice Bar,” an early elementary school children’s book series that encourages healthy eating habits through vivid illustrations and Dr. Seussian-style rhymes.
Earning his BA in Film Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara, Gottsegen has won numerous awards for his short films and video productions. Starting professionally at NBCUniversal Interactive, later Josh Gottsegen moved into editing as well as other creative projects for the Walt Disney Company, Fox Corporation, IMG, and the NFL.
I find that the best books are the ones that inspire kids to believe in themselves and this one is sure to become a family favorite! It’s the perfect book to read together at bedtime or for older kids to read on their own. The great part is that there are lots of fun activities and crafts that go along with it.
Little ones can get messy in the dirt while searching for amethysts then make Rockford’s favorite soap to clean up! Just click on the activities below for the tutorials.
Rockford T. Honeypot Recipes
When you’re finished crafting, the kids can practice their cooking skills with Rockford’s favorite recipes like Hazelnut Pancakes, Jewel’s Lemon Sorbet or even Rockford’s Nutty Nuts.
Rockfort T. Honeypot Coloring Pages
Coloring pages are always perfect for a rainy day too. These detailed coloring sheets will keep the kids busy for hours coloring their favorite characters. Be sure to print a couple for yourself too! I had forgotten how relaxing coloring was until I became a mom and started doing it again. Plus, it’s a great way to bond with the kids and get a little artistic at the same time.
