The Gray Stuff - If you're having a Beauty And The Beast Party, you have to have the gray stuff! These melt in your mouth meringue cookies are the perfect sweet treat for a birthday party!

When my daughter wanted to have a Beauty And The Beast party for her 6th birthday, I was super excited! Belle is my favorite princess and we even met the “real” Belle, Paige O’Hara, on our Disney Cruise last year. It was one of the highlights of the trip!

It was such a treat to meet the voice behind my favorite princess, Paige O'Hara from Beauty And The Beast

I was hoping to make a cool cake too. Last year Keira had a Moana cake and the year before that, a Rapunzel cake. Unfortunately I ran out of time and this year I caved and went with a grocery store cake. I did manage to find time to make some cute goodie bags though.

Instead of cheap trinkets from the party store, I always fill goodie bags with yummy treats. The grey stuff was the first thing that came to mind and I had the perfect recipe for these Beauty And The Beast cookies. I love making meringue cookies and all I had to do was add a little black food coloring to my super easy recipe and voila, we had “The Grey Stuff”.

I love coming up with new Disney princess ideas and these easy to make cookies are one of my new favorites. If you’re having a Beauty And The Beast party, you’ll definitely want to add them to the menu! They really are delicious!

How To Make The Grey Stuff For Your Beauty And The Beast Party

Start by combining egg whites, distilled vinegar, vanilla and salt.

To make the grey stuff for your Beauty And The Beast party, you only need five ingredients

Beat until soft peaks form, then start adding the sugar. You’ll want to add a little at a time. Add a spoonful and beat until well blended. Then keep adding more by the spoonful, a little at a time, until the sugar dissolves. The finished meringue should be smooth and not grainy.

Mix the sugar in slowly for the perfect Beauty And The Beast cookies

Finally, add black food coloring or gel until you get just the right shade for your grey stuff.

Line two cookie sheets with a brown grocery bag. You can drop the meringue by the spoonful but I like the way it looks when I use an icing bag.

Bake the grey stuff on a brown paper bag at low temperatures

Bake for 40-45 minutes, then turn off the oven. Crack the oven slightly and leave the cookies inside the oven until they cool (approximately 30 minutes). Once cooled, they’re ready to eat…you’ll need to taste test a few, of course!

You can't have a Beauty And The Beast Party without The Grey Stuff

These were so yummy and since I had so many left over, I served them at the party too. You’ll wouldn’t believe how fast they disappeared! These literally just melt in your mouth and our guests were raving about them! I think I’m going to find a way to work a version of them into all of our celebrations! I’ve already got Christmas cookies and Unicorn Cookies…what should I try next?

Also, the cookies actually came out smoother than they look in the picture. I made them the night before and didn’t have time to take pictures before the party in the morning. These pictures were taken the following day, which is why they have a little more texture than my usual meringue cookies.

Great For Goodie Bags

I also made cute notes to go with the Beauty And The Beast goody bags. I’ll be sharing the free printable, along with the Beauty And The Beast pretzels that I made, very soon!

Why the brown paper bags? Could we use parchment paper or something like that instead? The only large brown paper bags I can think of are grocery ones and I can’t help but think of all the germs in the air at grocery stores that would settle on the bags. I’m sure I’m overthinking it. Lol. Thanks!
