Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and if you have kids, you know exactly what that means.  It’s time to work on those Valentine’s boxes and my daughter and I started by checking out all the cute ideas on Pinterest.  In the end, we branched out on our own and make a box designed after her favorite toy, Shopkins.

If you don’t know what Shopkins are, they are cute little figures of objects that you’d find in everyday life.  There are all kinds of foods (Corny Cobb, Patty Cake), accessories (Beverly Heels, Bonny Beret) and miscellaneous other items (Polly Polish, Brenda Blenda). There are many great reasons to let your kids play with Shopkins. I even created a delicious Shopkins Cake! I know that we have well over 150 of them…my girls are a bit obsessed!  They’re actually pretty cute and they possess my favorite quality in a toy…they take up very little room!

We went through the Shopkins and I sorted the ones that I though would make a good Valentine box.  I let my daughter pick from there and she chose Teenie TV.  After a quick trip to the craft store, we were ready to get started!

DIY Shopkins Valentine’s Box

First we grabbed a cereal box from the pantry, cut a slot in the back for the Valentines, then painted the box purple.

We found this cool paper in the scrapbooking section and though we were actully looking for plain pink, we both liked the texture of this one.  I cut it with just enough room on the sides for the TV knobs and glued the piece to the box with hot glue.

These “sunglasses on a stick” and wooden circles were just what we needed for the glasses and knobs.  I pulled the stick off the sunglasses, filed it down a little and started painted everything yellow.

For the “glass” part of the sunglasses, we chose sparkly black paper from the scrapbooking section and hot-glued it to the back of the glasses.

Once everything was dry, I glued the pieces to the box and added more details.

To make the antenna, I used a cap from a milk jug and a straw that I cut in half.  First I covered them with aluminum foil, then glued them to the top of Teenie TV.

The Grand Finale

Finally, our masterpiece Valentines box was complete.  My daughter was pretty excited that her box looked so much like the original Shopkin but I was just excited that it had all been so easy! Now she was ready to collect her cards on Valentine’s Day!

What do you think, does it look close?

Super cute! My 6 year old loves Shopkins even though I had never heard of them. Great idea, esp. since we need to make a V. Day box for school this weekend. Visiting from Best of the Weekend link party.

So cute! My niece would love this!

My Grand Daughter loves her shopkins but they are so hard to find in stores. I’m sure she’d love you Valentines box. It turned out amazing. So cute. I had to PIN of course – Grand daughter’s orders. LOL

This adorable, Lisa and looks like a ton of fun to make! Thanks for sharing with #SocialButterflySunday! Hope to see you link up again this week 🙂
