Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.
Spray two 8-inch round cake pans with non-stick spray and place a parchment paper round into the bottoms of each pan. Spray the top of the parchment paper with non-stick spray. Set aside.
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
2 cups all purpose flour, ¾ cup cocoa powder, 2 tsp. Baking soda, ½ tsp. Baking powder, 1 tsp. Salt
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar until well combined and fluffy.
3 large eggs
Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla, and hot water. Whisk to combine.
Slowly start adding the dry ingredients mixture to the wet ingredients, whisking well between each addition.
Once all of the dry mixture has been incorporated, pour the cake batter evenly between the two round cake pans.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center of each cake comes out clean.
Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting.
