Popsicle Stick Haunted House

This colorful Popsicle Stick Haunted House is a fun and festive craft that also doubles as cute Halloween decor.

Instructions

  • Line up seven jumbo craft sticks on your work surface. Use scissors to trim additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the house and attach them with a glue gun.

  • Next, glue two jumbo craft sticks in a triangle pattern on the top of the house to create the roof.

  • Turn the house over, and place four jumbo craft sticks horizontally on the gable end of the roof. Trace the edge of the roof with pencil, and trim to size with scissors. Attach to the back of the roof with a glue gun.

  • Paint the sides and front of the house with purple acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry, then apply a second coat, if needed.

  • For the chimney, cut a jumbo craft stick into two pieces that are 2” long. Glue the sections together with the remaining piece of craft stick.

  • Attach to the side of the roof with a glue gun. Paint the chimney, roof, and an additional regular craft stick with black acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry, then apply a second coat, if necessary.

  • Download, print, and cut out the craft stick haunted house pattern.
  • Use a pencil to trace the ghost onto white craft foam. Trace the window twice onto yellow craft foam and trace the door onto green craft foam. Trace the pumpkin onto orange craft foam and the sign and pumpkin stem onto brown craft foam. Finally, trace the bat onto black craft foam.
  • Cut out all shapes, making sure to cut inside the traced lines so there are no pencil marks on your project.

  • Use a permanent black marker to add a face to the ghost and the jack-o-lantern. Write KEEP OUT on the sign and draw lines on the door. Add an outline and panes on the windows.

  • Glue the sign to the sign post, and trim to length with scissors. Attach the door, windows, sign, pumpkin, ghost, and bat to the house with a glue gun. Use two orange self-adhesive rhinestones to make bat eyes and glue an orange button to the door for the door knob.

  • That's all there is too it! Super cute, right?

Notes

  • If you have younger kids, you may want to use liquid glue. It'll work just as well, you'll just have to have time to let it dry.  
  • If you don't have craft foam, colored cardstock would be a good substitute.
  • It's best not to use washable marker. It could smear on the craft foam.
