Ingredients

For The Cake

  • 1 box Devil’s Food Cake Mix 15.25 ounce size
  • 1 1/4 cups water *or amount on box instructions
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil *or amount on box instructions
  • 3 eggs *or amount on box instructions
  • 1 box instant chocolate pudding mix 3.9 ounce size
  • 2 cups milk

For The Frosting

  • 1 box instant chocolate pudding 5.9 ounce size
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the cake in a 9x13 inch pan according to the box directions. Allow the cake to cool completely after baking. Once the cake has cooled, poke holes all over the top of the cake.
    1 box Devil’s Food Cake Mix , 1 1/4 cups water, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 3 eggs
  • Whisk together the 3.9-ounce box of chocolate pudding mix and 2 cups milk in a medium bowl.
    1 box instant chocolate pudding mix, 2 cups milk
  • Quickly pour the pudding mixture over top of the cake and into the holes of the cake. Allow the cake to chill for 1 hour.
  • To make the frosting, whisk together the 5.9-ounce chocolate pudding mix, 1 cup milk, powdered sugar, and Cool Whip. Frost the cake.
    1 box instant chocolate pudding , 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup powdered sugar, 8 ounces Cool Whip
  • Sprinkle miniature chocolate chips over top of the frosting. Chill for another hour and serve.
    1/4 cup mini chocolate chips

Notes

Be sure to pour the pudding mixture over the top of the cake before the pudding has had a chance to set. Otherwise it won't sink into the holes, which is what you want for a super moist poke cake.
