First, gather your supplies and remove the metal spring from your standard wooden clothespins.
Take three wooden clothespins and assemble them to form a wedge shape. Use a hot glue gun to attach the wooden clothespin pieces together.
Paint front, back and sides of the Christmas tree with the red paint, then set aside to dry. Add a second coat if needed.
Use the glue gun to attach eight white pom poms in a row across the bottom of the clothespin hat. Next, glue one white pom pom to the top of the hat.
Use a pair of scissors to cut a piece of jute twine approximately 12" long. Tie it in a loop with a knot, then glue it to the top of the back of the Santa hat.
Finally, add a mini holly leaf and three mini gold tinsel pom poms.
Now you've got the cutest clothespin ornaments to hang on your Christmas tree every year!
Notes
Hot Glue Alternative: If you're doing this with younger kids, you can substitute liquid craft glue instead. It just takes a little longer for your craft to dry using liquid glue. Don't have white pom poms? You can use cotton balls instead. If you don't have twine, or just want to save a couple dollars, you can use a piece of string to hang your ornament instead. For easy cleanup, make the craft on white paper plates. That way, instead of having to clean your work surface, you can just toss it in the trash!
