Ever wondered if you should buy travel insurance for a big trip? I’ve learned that it’s totally worth it for the peace of mind alone! Find out just how travel insurance can help make vacations more stress free and relaxing.

Travel Insurance

If my family ever won the lottery, you’d probably never see us again. We’d buy one-way tickets to travel the world and visit every corner of the globe from Antarctica to Zimbabwe.

We haven’t been quite that lucky yet, but we still manage to work in some pretty awesome trips here and there. My husband loves to travel as much as I do, and even my girls have caught the travel bug and have wish lists that include Ireland, Australia, and an African safari.

Last year we decided that, at 6 and 10 years old, our girls were finally ready for some international adventures. Fiji had been a bucket-list trip of ours and seemed like the perfect choice for breaking in their new passports.

Travel Insurance

This was our biggest and most expensive family vacation yet. That’s why I started checking out travel insurance. A lot could happen between the time we booked our trip and when we actually left. Plus, when you’re traveling with a family of four, that’s quadruple the number of things that could go wrong. I was pretty sure it was going to be an awesome vacation but on the other hand, I wanted to be prepared… just in case.

I needed the peace of mind I’d get by knowing that if something happened, medical or otherwise, we wouldn’t be out a ton of cash. It was important to me that we’d be covered so that the only thing we had to worry about was where we were going to get our next tropical fruit punch!

What Is Travel Insurance

Travel insurance from VisitorsCoverage is pretty much like any other insurance, meant to cover you if there are unexpected events or emergencies. Even though we have no plans to get hurt or sick, the great thing about insurance is that it gives us peace of mind because we have it in case we need it.

It’s the same with travel. A lot can happen and while we expect to have the best vacation ever, it’s important to have a backup plan too, just in case. That’s why I didn’t hesitate to get trip insurance for our trip to Fiji. I didn’t want to lose all that money if something caused us to have to cancel. I also wanted to know that we had a plan in place if something happened while we were traveling.

It was such a great experience that now I want it for all my trips, including an upcoming trip to Finland.

What Does Travel Insurance Cover

I like the flexibility of VisitorsCoverage because their plans can cover as much or as little as we want. Some plans focus solely on medical coverage. Other plans might cover trip cancellations due to medical emergencies or take care of medical expenses that come up while traveling.

This aspect of it was important to me since it was the first time we’d traveled internationally with the girls. Every parent knows that kids are more likely to get sick or hurt at the most inconvenient times, for example, on vacation or when mommy and daddy have a date night planned. I’m not sure why it happens that way… it just does!

That’s why you never know, and something as simple as a walk on the beach, can turn into a doctor’s visit just by stepping on a pointy shell or rock in the sand.

Travel insurance covers more than just medical expenses, though. Depending on your plan, it can cover trip interruption or cancellation, trip delays, missed flights, lost or delayed baggage and more. Some plans even cover lost golf rounds and equipment rentals.

How Much Does Travel Insurance Cost

Because we all have different needs and budgets, VisitorsCoverage has a variety of plans to choose from. Some cover basic medical needs while others include much more.

I was actually surprised at how affordable it was to buy travel insurance for a family of four, especially since we were traveling halfway across the world. Because it was so budget friendly, I bought it again when I planned a trip to Costa Rica several months later. We had some cool adventures planned and if there was ever a time that I needed travel insurance, this was it!

Now I don’t even think twice about buying travel insurance for all my international travel. It’s such a no brainer! I do recommend one thing though—be sure you buy travel insurance on your own, not through your travel agent. The agent we used for Fiji quoted us hundreds more than what I paid buying it myself. I’m not sure if it’s that much higher every time but it’s something you’ll definitely want to compare.

Is Travel Insurance Worth It

Yes, yes and YES!!! VisitorsCoverage takes so much of the stress out of traveling. For one thing, you never know what the cost of medical care can be in other countries. Some foreign countries have higher health care costs than we do. A simple trip to the doctor’s office can cost hundreds of dollars. Those unexpected expenses can be really stressful and emotionally draining. Having travel insurance is like having a mental life ring to keep you afloat!

I love not having to wonder about the consequences of a missed flight or what I’ll wear if my luggage gets lost. VisitorsCoverage has plans that cover those issues and more.

How To Buy Travel Insurance

I’m a big fan of one-stop shopping and VisitorsCoverage makes finding the right travel insurance easy. When I started planning my Finland trip, I was able to check out my options straight from my phone.

Luckily we never had to use our travel insurance from VisitorsCoverage but I loved the peace of mind it gave me. Now my youngest is begging for an African safari for our next family vacation… she may be waiting awhile!
