Trying to decide what to put under the Christmas tree this year? This list of the most popular kid’s toys for Christmas will help make your shopping a little easier!
I received some of these toys free for my review. However, all opinions are 100% my own.
I will never forget the year I waited a little too long to buy that life sized Anna doll! Frozen was still the most popular thing on the planet and little Keira, just shy of turning four, desperately wanted a life sized Anna doll for Christmas.
Unfortunately, Keira was always with me so by the time I managed to sneak away so shop on my own, everyplace was sold out. I called stores every day for two weeks until I finally found one 45 minutes away. It wasn’t easy but it was totally worth it to see how happy she was on Christmas morning!
If I learned anything from that experience, it’s that I need to get a jump on everyone else before the hottest toys get sold out. When I was asked recently to share this years hottest toys on Sarasota’s Suncoast View, I jumped at the chance. I’d already made a list of the most popular toys for Christmas 2017 so I could get a jump on everyone else. You can check out the segment here:

The Most Popular Kid’s Toys For Christmas
Star Wars BB9E
This BB-9E Droid is going to be on every Star Wars lovers Christmas list, especially with the new movie coming out! Who wouldn’t want to own their very own droid?! It rolls around just like the one from the movie, plus you can check out the Star Wars galaxy through a holographic simulation. It even interacts with other app-enabled droids so if you already have the BB-8 droid, you can really have some fun!
Fingerlings Interactive Baby Monkeys are so cute that it’s kind of a given that they’ll be a hit! They hang on to your finger, babble like a monkey, swing upside down and even blow kisses. I love that you can even get a jungle gym playset for your little monkey to climb on. Don’t tell my kids but I think I may just get them one so that I can play with it!
Hamsters In The House
Hamsters In The House are popular with the little ones this year and my 5 year old loves playing with her supermarket set. The best thing about this toy is that these hamsters won’t escape and hide in remote corners of the house, unlike every real hamster my sister and I had as a kid! Kids can collect 11 new hamsters and even build their own hamster world with a diner, a bakery and of course, a supermarket. Christmas is covered!
Made by Zuru, the same company that gave us fidgets and fidget cubes, Tangle is a fun way for kids to express their creative side. My girls mold theirs into different shapes, attach them to other objects, and just fidget with them for fun…the possibilities are endless. I love that I can throw a couple in my purse and have instant entertainment for my kids when we’re at the doctor’s office, shopping or anything else that my kids deem “boring”.
Orb’s Soft ‘n Slo Squishies are so hot that apparently my 9 year old daughter was the ONLY kid in her school that didn’t have at least one. While she may have been exaggerating, these are definitely the hot item this year! Kids love the “slow rise” foam toys. They can squeeze, then release them and watch as they slowly regain their shape. Now even my 5 year old is begging for squishies for Christmas. Taking the form of cupcakes, ice cream and other objects, these are perfect for under the tree or as a stocking stuffer.
Soggy Doggy Board Game
I could tell just by looking at Spin Master’s Soggy Doggy game that my girls were going to love it. How can kids not love a game that involves getting sprayed by a wet dog as you make your way around the board! I was right…the kids loved it and even I had fun playing it with them. You get just wet enough to make it fun but not enough that you’re mopping up afterwards. Both my 5 year old and my 10 year old loved it, making it perfect for family game night!
Roller Coaster Challenge
I love games that make my kids think and this Roller Coaster Challenge by Think Fun does just that! Kids have fun building their very own roller coaster but it requires skill and logic to do so. Since it has four levels, from easy to super hard, both my girls can enjoy building coasters. My five year old and I did it together and I enjoyed it just as much as she did! There are endless possibilities and it’s fun to see the different coasters that they create.
Utopia 360 Dinosaur Experience
This Utopia 360 Dinosaur Experience from ReTrak is an exciting virtual reality experience for kids. As dinosaurs come to life right before their eyes, kids learn fun facts about them at the same time. There are also versions that feature the solar system (great for older kids) and the alphabet matched with animals (perfect for teaching letter/sound recognition to younger kids).
Color Cube Sudoku
Color Cube Sudoku by Think Fun is another great game for older kids who want to test their logic skills. A twist on the original sudoku game, kids arrange cubes by color instead of number. The challenge is to make sure that no colors repeat themselves in the pattern. It’s great for teaching analytical skills and should keep my 10 year old off the computer for awhile!
Older kids are going crazy for this Laser X Gaming Set. Kids (or adults) wear special vests that can be blasted from 200′ away and lighting effects help keep track of hits and misses. There’s also an interactive voice coach that gives tips and feedback while you play. I was told that parents come back to buy additional sets so that they can join in with their kids. The added bonus? It’s a great way to get the kids out from in front of the TV or computer and running around.
furReal Roarin’ Tyler
Don’t tell my five year old but she’s going to find the furReal Roarin’ Tyler under the tree this year. She’s been begging for this for months and since last year’s Torch, the dragon version of this toy, has been a favorite all year long, I know she’s going to love this one too. These furReal toys are super cute! They’re interactive, respond to sound and make over 100 sounds and motions of their own. This guy has a squeaky toy to play with, while Torch had a marshmallow that he toasted by breathing “fire”. Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong with either of these!
We’re excited to see the new Disney/Pixar movie Coco and it’s going to be the hit of the holiday season. Of course, there will be lots of Coco toys to go along with it, including this interactive Coco guitar. This guitar helps kids learn the song “Remember Me”, has working lights and even a skull that chomps when the first chord is played. It comes with additional sheet music if your kids are really serious about becoming musicians.
This sure is different from the Big Wheel that I had as a kid! If you really want to go all out, buy your kid a convertible Bugatti! While it’s probably too steep for most budgets, your kid would definitely be the coolest kid in the neighborhood. It even has a leather seat and comes with a remote control for parents who don’t entirely trust their child’s driving skills.
Which of these do you think your child would like to find under the tree this year? Are there any hot toys that I’ve left off the list? What do you think will be the hot kid’s toys for Christmas?
