This Father’s Day Handprint & Footprint Art is an adorable craft project that’s just as fun to make as it is to give. A little paint, a little giggling, and dad ends up with a sweet gift he’ll want to display every single year.

When I taught Kindergarten, I always loved helping my students make something special for Mother’s Day. Because school was still in session in May, moms got the full treatment: handmade cards, little crafts, and all the sweet things that make that day feel extra memorable.

Dads, on the other hand, don’t always get the same love. Father’s Day falls in June when school is out, summer is in full swing, and between vacations and busy schedules, it’s easy for a thoughtful handmade gift to fall through the cracks.

That’s exactly why I love this easy craft so much. It takes just a few minutes to put together, and you don’t need to track down a bunch of supplies. Print the template, grab some paint, and let the kids go to town…the kids AND dad will love this one!

Why We Love This Craft

  • A Keepsake Dad Will Treasure – Those little hands and feet don’t stay little for long, and this craft is one of the best ways to freeze that moment in time. The handprint gifts from when my girls were little are still some of our most treasured keepsakes.
  • Fun For Kids – Kids love any excuse to get their hands (and feet!) covered in paint, and this craft gives them the perfect reason. The “mess” is totally worth it.
  • Easy Peasy – Print, paint, and frame. No special supplies, no complicated steps, and no last-minute trip to a craft store required.

How To Use These Printables

There are five fun designs to choose from, so you can pick the one that fits your dad best. Whether he’s a music lover, a DIY guy, or just the world’s greatest dad (obviously), there’s a printable for him.

Each design is printed blank, leaving plenty of open space for the handprints, footprints, or both. Here’s all you do:

  1. Print your favorite design. You can use regular printer paper but I highly recommend cardstock, just because it’s so much sturdier.
  2. Dip little hands and/or feet into non-toxic paint (or a non-toxic ink pad instead).
  3. Press the painted hand or food onto the printable. Place the artwork somewhere safe to dry.
  4. Place in a frame and wrap it up to gift to dad on his special day.

That’s all there is to it…no crafting experience needed. If your little one can sit still for approximately three seconds, you’ve totally got it. (And even if they can’t, I’ve got faith in you…you’ll make it happen).
