These melt-in-your-mouth Maple Syrup Cookies are rich, buttery, and topped with a thick, creamy maple frosting. The chewy edges, crunchy pecans, and soft centers give them that irresistible bakery style texture. One bite and you’ll see why these are my go-to cookies for fall!

Homemade Maple Cookies Recipe
Autumn always puts me in the mood for maple, and these Maple Syrup Cookies are exactly what I’ve been craving. I add real maple syrup and brown sugar to the dough to give the cookies a warm, caramel-like sweetness. They bake up soft and buttery, then get topped with a thick maple icing and a sprinkle of chopped pecans.
The dough comes together easily, then chills for a few hours before baking. I’ve learned not to skip that chill because it’s what gives the cookies their chewy edges and tender centers. Set them out for Thanksgiving, add them to your Christmas cookie tray, or make a batch just because maple season has arrived!
If you’re as maple‑obsessed as I am, you’ll want to add my Maple Crack Bacon and Maple Glazed Carrots to your list too.

Why You’ll Love My Maple Syrup Cookies
- Real maple flavor: Pure maple syrup goes into both the cookie dough and the frosting, so you can taste the maple in every bite.
- Soft and chewy: Brown sugar and butter give these cookies a soft texture with just enough chewiness around the edges.
- Pantry-friendly ingredients: You don’t need any maple extract or other specialty supplies, just basic baking ingredients and real maple syrup.
Ingredients

For The Cookies
- Unsalted butter: Soften it just enough to mix easily, but don’t let it melt.
- Light brown sugar: Adds sweetness and moisture, plus a deeper flavor that goes so well with the maple syrup.
- Eggs: Help give the cookie dough structure while keeping the centers soft and tender.
- Vanilla extract: Rounds out the maple flavor without overpowering it.
- Pure maple syrup: Use real maple syrup rather than pancake syrup for the richest, most natural maple flavor.
- All-purpose flour: Gives the dough enough structure to bake into thick, soft cookies.
- Baking powder: Helps the cookies rise slightly as they bake.
- Baking soda: Gives you just the right amount of spread and helps the edges brown.
For The Maple Frosting
- Powdered sugar: Creates the smooth, sweet base for the frosting.
- Unsalted butter: Use room temperature butter so the frosting is easy to spread.
- Vanilla extract: Adds a little extra warmth and balances the maple flavor.
- Pure maple syrup: Gives the frosting its sweet maple flavor and creamy consistency.
- Chopped pecans: Sprinkle them over the frosting for a little crunch.

For The Cookies
Step 1. Add the softened butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract to a large bowl. Use an electric mixer to cream together the ingredients until they are well combined.
Step 2. Add the eggs and maple syrup. Beat until the mixture looks smooth and fluffy, then scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula and mix again.
Step 3. Add the flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix just until everything is combined. The cookie dough will be soft at this point.
Step 4. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 3 hours. This gives the soft dough time to firm up before baking. When the chill time is almost finished, preheat oven to 350°F.

Step 5. Scoop the chilled dough into 3 tablespoon portions and roll or shape them into balls. Arrange about 8 cookies on each baking sheet, leaving enough room between them to spread.
Step 6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly golden brown.
Step 7. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. Carefully transfer to a wire rack and cool completely before adding the frosting.

For The Frosting
Step 1. Add the powdered sugar, room temperature butter, vanilla extract, and maple syrup to a large mixing bowl.
Step 2. Use an electric mixer on low speed until the ingredients begin to come together. Increase the mixer to high speed and beat until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
Step 3. Spread the maple frosting over the top of each cookie. Finish with a sprinkle of chopped pecans.

Storage Instructions
- Room temperature: Store the frosted maple cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Place parchment paper between the layers if you need to stack them.
- Refrigerator: If you like the frosting a little firmer, you can refrigerate the cookies in a sealed container. Let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
- Freezer: For longer storage, freeze the unfrosted cookies in a freezer-safe container with parchment paper between the layers. Thaw completely, then add the maple icing before serving.

Tips And Tricks
These cookies are easy to make, but a few little details make a big difference. Here’s what I always keep in mind for soft centers, chewy edges, and smooth maple frosting every time.
- Measure the flour carefully: Too much flour can make soft cookies dry or heavy. Spoon the flour into the measuring cup and level off the top instead of packing it down.
- Use a cookie scoop if you have one: Portions that are the same size help all the cookies finish baking at the same time.
- Give the cookies plenty of space: These are larger cookies, so avoid crowding the baking sheet. Leaving room around each scoop lets them spread evenly.
- Don’t wait for the tops to brown: The bottoms should be lightly golden, but the centers can still look soft when you take them out of the oven.
- Bake one pan at a time: Keeping the baking sheet near the center of the oven gives the cookies more consistent heat.

Variations And Add-ins
There are so many fun ways to make these cookies your own! Here are some of my favorite swaps and add-ins.
- Add pecans to the dough: Stir a small handful of chopped pecans into the finished cookie dough if you want pecan flavor in every bite instead of only on top.
- Try walnuts instead: Chopped walnuts are an easy swap for the pecans and go so well with maple syrup.
- Add a pinch of cinnamon: A little ground cinnamon gives the cookies a warmer fall flavor without covering up the maple.
- Use dark maple syrup: A darker syrup has a stronger maple taste and can give both the cookies and frosting a deeper flavor.
- Leave off the nuts: The pecan topping is totally optional, so you can skip it for a nut-free version.
- Make a maple glaze: Stir maple syrup or milk into the frosting, just a little at a time, until it’s thin enough to drizzle over the cookies.
- Sprinkle on flaky salt: Just a tiny amount over the maple frosting gives the sweetness a great contrast.

FAQs
I recommend pure maple syrup because it gives these cookies that real maple flavor. Pancake syrup has a different flavor and consistency, so the cookies won’t taste the same.
Look at the bottoms instead of waiting for the tops to brown. They should be lightly golden after about 10 to 12 minutes, while the centers will still be soft.
Yes! The dough already chills for 3 hours, so it’s easier to make it earlier in the day and bake the cookies later.
Absolutely! You can portion the dough smaller than the 3 tablespoons in the recipe. Just know that smaller cookies bake faster so start checking them earlier to keep the edges from overbaking.
