Planning an Orlando vacation? Find out why the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek is a vacation in itself. With it’s prime location, amazing entertainment and activities and reasonable prices, it’s the ideal escape for a quick weekend getaway or your next theme park vacation.
Thanks so much to the Wyndham Grand Bonnet Creek Resort for hosting our stay. All opinions are 100% my own.
Looking for a great family friendly place to stay in Orlando? We recently discovered a great new spot that’s perfect for your next family vacation.
Conveniently located near the Disney theme parks, the Wyndham Grand Bonnet Creek offers free shuttle service to the four main parks as well as Disney Springs. However, once you see all that they have to offer, you may never want to leave the resort!
The Property
Walking into the lobby, one of the first things you’ll notice are the gorgeous chandeliers and the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lake.
There’s also a small art gallery off to the side.
Wander outside and you can make a loop around a small lake, stopping at one of the many wooden swings along the way to enjoy the view.
As you explore the resort, you’ll also notice a fun pirate theme throughout. Signs along the way told stories of swashbuckling pirates and dramatic shipwrecks.
Keep your eyes open and you may just spot a pirate looking for somewhere to bury his treasure.
The theme was carried throughout the property, as you’ll see below when we spent the day visiting the pools!
The Rooms
The Wyndham Grand resort has variety of guest rooms to choose from. For example, you can stay in a hotel room with a king size bed, two queens or even bunk beds. You can also choose from rooms with or without a balcony or lake view. For those who need special accommodations, the Wyndham also offers ADA accessible rooms.
Because there were four of us, the room with two queen beds was the perfect size. It was bright and airy, with plenty of space to move around easily.
The modern bathrooms are well lit, with a smaller room for the shower and toilet.
The rooms have all the amenities you’d expect, from a hair dryer and ironing board to a refrigerator and safe. The coffee station came with real creamer (as opposed to the powder) and also included tea.
My laptop fit easily into the safe and the refrigerator came in handy for keeping our snacks, drinks and leftovers fresh.
While the room itself was great, the best part was just outside…the balcony. I mean, you really can’t beat this view!
If you think that’s a great view, you should see it at sunset!
Even better than the sunset was the fact that at around 9:00 every night, we had a front row view of the Disney fireworks!
My girls thought it was pretty cool to be able to watch the fireworks from the comfort of our room. The best part? There were no crowds to squeeze through when it was all over!
Dining
The Wyndham Grand has no shortage of dining options, from grab-and-go to fine dining restaurants. No matter what you’re in the mood for, you’ll find it.
The Barista
Even though I used the coffee maker in our room every morning, I also really liked the convenience of having Starbucks coffee available downstairs at Barista. In addition to specialty coffee, they had everything else you’d expect to find in your local coffee shop, including snacks and sandwiches.
Tesoro Cove
The buffet breakfast at Tesoro Cove is the perfect way to start your day. There are a huge variety of items to choose from and even the pickiest of kids should be able to find something they like.
From bagels and cereal to fresh fruits and yogurt, we couldn’t decide where to start!
Hot breakfasts included a made to order omelet station, Belgian waffles, pancakes and a hot bar with scrambled eggs, sausage and more.
Other items included smoked salmon with capers and a delicious charcuterie platter.
There was plenty of fresh fruit as well.
Beverages included a variety of fruit juices, coffee, tea and fountain drinks. Overall, we all thought breakfast here was delicious and loved all the choices.
Back Bay Bar And Grill
This casual dining restaurant overlooks the lake, so you can enjoy lunch or dinner with a view. Since we were on vacay, I chose to order one of Back Bay’s signature cocktails.
Menu items include salads, quesadillas, burgers, sandwiches and wraps. There’s also a children’s menu that features the usual kid friendly choices like grilled cheese, chicken fingers and hot dogs.
The pesto chicken sandwich, complete with bacon, got a big thumbs up. It was juicy and full of flavor!
I couldn’t resist the grouper sandwich. It’s one of my favorite sandwiches and this one did not disappoint. It had just the right amount of seasoning and tasted delish!
The spicy buffalo chicken wrap was also a huge hit. It was so good that we all had to have a bite. As good as the other entrees were, this one was by far the favorite!
Happy hour is from 3-5 daily and on the weekends you can listen to live music as well. It’s a great place for a meal but also a fun place to just relax with a cocktail.
Deep Blu Seafood Grille & Sushi
What’s a vacation if you don’t treat yourself a little! If you’re in the mood for a fine dining experience, you’ll want to make reservations at Deep Blu Seafood. Though the atmosphere was upscale, the restaurant was still welcoming and kid-friendly.
The menu features a wide variety of fresh seafood and southern style cuisine. Because we’re all such big shrimp lovers, we had to start with a shrimp cocktail! They were a good size and tasted great
We also ordered sushi for an appetizer. Freshly made by their on-site sushi chef, it tasted delicious!
While we could’ve made an entire meal of sushi alone, there were too many other seafood entrees on the menu that we wanted to try.
Our favorites were the crabcakes and the grouper. The crabcakes were a hit with the whole family, flavorful and made with just the right amount of crabmeat.
The grouper, served over asparagus and roasted potatoes, was another tasty choice.
While there are plenty of options for casual dining at the resort, I highly recommend treating yourself at least once to a fine dining experience at Deep Blu!
Bar 1521
There are definitely some benefits to having a teenager, one of which was that we could leave the kids in the room while we snuck away to have a cocktail downstairs. Open until midnight (and serving food until 11pm), Bar 1521 serves hand-crafted cocktails, wine, beer and even sake.
Food choices include appetizers, bar bites and sushi as well as a limited entree menu. You can also hit up the bar from 4-6 for Happy Hour drink specials.
My husband and I love our family time but it’s always nice to be able to take some time away for adult conversation and cocktails!
Grand Eats Delivery
Feel like staying in? Room service is available through Grand Eats. The menu includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a kid’s menu. You can also order energy drinks (much needed before you hit the theme parks) or wine, beer and canned cocktails (much needed when you return)!
Things To Do
Pool Time
With five pools and two lazy rivers, our biggest challenge was deciding where to go first! In keeping with the pirate theme, one of the pools featured a giant pirate ship and we decided to kick off the day there.
At first glance, you might think the pirate ship is just for looks. However, take a walk around to the back and there’s a pretty cool waterslide too! This was definitely a big hit with the kids!
After spending some time at the “pirate pool”, it was time to relax while floating around a lazy river.
We were all about chilling on the innertubes!
We spent the majority of our time at these two pools but there are three other pools too, each with something different to offer. One had a slide and play area that was perfect for families with younger kids.
Enjoying a kid free vacation? Grab a drink from the bar and enjoy live music while relaxing poolside.
If you like your privacy, or just want a cool spot out of the sun, cabanas are available for rent too.
There’s no better way to cool off in the hot Florida sun than a day at the pool!
Fun And Games
There are no shortage of things to do here and popular activities include ping pong, cornhole, shuffleboard and everyone’s favorite, mini golf!
There’s something for kids (and adults) of all ages! The game room is a great way to escape the regular afternoon thunderstorms in summer.
Entertainment & Activities
Julie McCoy has nothing on the activities director at the Wyndham Grand! Every day there are multiple activities and other forms of entertainment planned! Here were just a few of the things that were planned for the week we were visiting:
- Bingo
- Trivia
- Karaoke
- Crafting
- Movie Night
- Corn Hole Tournament
- Biggest Splash Competition
- Face Painting
- Nature Scavenger Hunt
- Pirate Game Show
- Couples Game Show
- Comedy Magic Show
- Polynesian Luau
- Yoga
- Aqua Fitness
Our favorite was the Comedy Magic Show and the kids in the audience had a blast being part of the act. The show was so entertaining and funny that even my “too cool” teen was giggling and loving it just as much as the rest of us!
Blue Harmony Spa
If you’re into spa treatments, take some time to spoil yourself at the Blue Harmony Spa. With 5,700 square feet and six private treatment rooms, this on-site spa offers full or half day spa packages and services include massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and more.
Overall, we had a fantastic time staying at the Wyndham Grand Resort Bonnet Creek. From the spacious rooms, the family friendly restaurants, activities and pools, it has everything going for it. It’s worth checking out for your next Orlando vacation!
