With Thanksgiving right around the corner, this Printable Thankful Tree is such a fun and meaningful way to help kids practice gratitude. They’ll write what they’re thankful for on brightly colored leaves, then cut and glue them onto the tree page to create a beautiful keepsake filled with happy, thankful moments.

Why We Love It

  • Hands-on – kids can write, cut, and build their own Thankful Tree with meaningful messages.
  • Great For Kids Of All Ages – there are 4 pages of regular leaves with labels and four without label for younger writers who tend to write bigger.
  • Easy To Prep – just print on 8.5×11 paper, grab scissors and glue, and you’re ready!
  • Beautiful Thanksgiving Display – once completed, it looks adorable hung on the wall or placed near the Thanksgiving table.
  • Perfect For Home Or The Classroom – perfect for families, teachers, homeschoolers, and group activities.
Two sheets of paper display rows of outlined leaves in various fall colors, with some leaves left uncolored and others fully outlined.

How To Use It

Start by printing as many pages as you need. If you’re doing this with one child, you’ll only need one set…print more for multiple children. Have kids write, or even draw, what they are thankful for on the leaves.

Cut out the leaves (littler hands might need help with this part). Finally, arrange and glue the leaves onto the tree page however you like. Let dry and your tree is ready to display!

Variations

  • Family Tree Version: Each family member gets a color, so you can see at a glance who wrote each leaf.
  • Thanksgiving Countdown: Add one leaf per day leading up to Thanksgiving.
  • Color Themes: Use specific leaf colors for different categories like people, places, fun events, or favorite foods.
  • Reusable Tree: Laminate the tree and leaves, or print the leaves on cardstock and attach with Velcro dots so you can use it year after year.
Four illustrated leaves, each labeled with text: "Family," "my dogs," "My friends," and "my toys.

FAQs

What paper size should I print?

You can print these on 8.5″x11″ paper or cardstock. If you plan to display upright or save as a keepsake, I recommend printing the tree page on cardstock since it’s sturdier.

Do I need special supplies?

You’ll need a printer, paper, scissors, glue and something to write with (anything from crayons to markers).

Is this activity only for kids?

Not at all! It’s a fun activity for the family to do together. Each person can even make one in private ahead of time, then share with the family on Thanksgiving.
