Tips & Tricks

  • You can start with a store-bought or microwave popcorn. Just be sure to get one without any butter or cheese flavoring. If making homemade popcorn, try using coconut oil – it gives a delicious flavor that won’t compete with the sweetness of the candy.
  • This is a great base recipe that you can modify for other holidays and special occasions. You can use dark chocolate in place of the candy melts or change up the candy and sprinkle colors.
  • Feel free to be creative with the mix-ins. Toss in some nuts, use peanut M&Ms, or add mini marshmallows…whatever you like. Conversation hearts would also be a cute addition.
  • If using store-bought popcorn, you can remove the unpopped kernels easily by cutting a small hole in the top of the bag that’s large enough for the kernels to fit though but too small for the popped corn. Give the bag a good shake and the kernels will fall out through the hole.

How Do I Store Valentine’s Day Popcorn?

Store any leftover popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature. It should keep for about a week.

Can I Use Chocolate Chips Instead of Candy Melts?

Sure – you can use white chocolate chips and add some red or pink food coloring to half of the melted white chocolate. Just take extra care not to burn the chocolate or it will seize up and form clumps.
