Father’s Day Popcorn Craft

Dads deserve a handmade gift that’s as fun to make as it is to give, and this one checks every box. It’s cute, budget friendly and easy enough for kids of all ages. But the best part? The kids get to tell dad all the reasons they think he’s the best.

While I’m actually still deciding which craft to feature on my upcoming Father’s Day segment on Sarasota’s Suncoast View, this one is right there at the top. The “World’s Best Pop” pun alone might just seal the deal because we all know how dads love a good pun!

Materials for a craft project: printed paper label, wooden sticks, glue stick, white paper cup, black marker, yellow tissue paper, and blue-handled scissors on a gray surface.

Supplies:

  • 8 ounce cup
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Yellow tissue paper

Tools Needed:

  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Black marker

Tips & Tricks

  • An 8 ounce cup works best for this. If it’s too small, you’ll see the wooden part of the popsicle sticks. If you use too big a cup, the sticks will be too short. (Plus, the template is designed for an 8 ounce size).
  • I recommend a glue stick or white craft glue like Elmers for younger children. Older kids can use a glue gun.
  • If you have multiple children, they can each make their own bucket or you can turn it into a fun game and let dad guess which kid wrote what.

This Father's Day Popcorn Craft is a fun idea for kids of all ages. With just a few simple supplies, and a whole lot of love, you've got the perfect gift for dad.

Equipment

Instructions

  • Print the template and cut it out. Wrap it around the cup, gluing it into place as you go.
A striped paper cup labeled "World's Best Pop!" sits next to an orange Elmer's glue stick on a white surface.
  • Cut tissue paper into squares (approximately 2"x2") and crumple into little "popcorn" balls.
Several yellow tissue paper squares and small crumpled paper balls are arranged on a white surface.
  • Just to give the bucket a more full look, I glued a row of "popcorn" around the top of the cup. This will also keep the wooden part of the popsicle sticks from peeking out.
A hand holds a red and white striped cup labeled "World's Best Pop!" filled with crumpled yellow tissue paper; extra tissue paper pieces are on a white surface.
  • Glue a piece of popcorn to the top of each popsicle stick and write one thing you love about dad on each one.
Several craft sticks with handwritten messages such as "Gives the best hugs" and "Takes me for ice cream" are arranged on a table with a marker and crumpled yellow paper.
  • Add each one to your popcorn bucket and your gift is ready to share!

Notes

  • The template is designed to fit an 8 ounce cup.
  • A glue stick or white craft glue like Elmers is best for younger children but older kids may want to use a glue gun.
  • If you have multiple children, you can turn it into a fun game. They can combine all their sticks in one popcorn bucket and and dad can guess which kid wrote what.
