The best part is that it takes just four ingredients! Give me a simple dessert that tastes delish and I’m all in!

How to Make Layered Jello

Ingredients for red, white and blue jello desserts

Step 1: Start by spraying a 13×9 inch pan with non-stick cooking spray.  You’ll also want to be sure you have a level space in your freezer. Lay out 7 bowls (4 large & 3 small)

Step 2: Gather 7 bowls, 4 large and 3 small. Place 3oz of red Jello in one large bowl, blue Jello in the second and 1 package of unflavored gelatin the third large bowl.  Pour a cup of boiling water into each bowl and stir until gelatin dissolves completely.

Step 3: Combine the remaining boiled water (1 ¼ cups) with 2 packages of the unflavored gelatin. Stir until completely dissolved, add sweetened condensed milk and mix well.

Step 4: Divide sweetened condensed mixture evenly between the 3 small bowls. Set aside.

Step 6: Pour one bowl of white gelatin mixture over the blue. Freeze for 10 more minutes.

Step 7: Continue alternating the red, white and blue Jello to create even Jello layers. Freeze for 5 minutes after each of the colored layers and 10 minutes after each of the white layers.

Step 8: Once all your layers have been poured into the pan, place the pan in the refrigerator. Chill for at least 3 hours or until Jello is completely set.

Step 9: To serve, cut layered Jello into 24 equal cubes.

Step 10: Cover the pan with plastic wrap or place cubes in an airtight container. Refrigerate until ready to serve, then enjoy all the oohs and ahhs from everyone that is super impressed with your patriotic dessert.

Can I Make This Jello Healthy?

Yes, you can! Just use sugar-free jello or opt for low-fat or sugar-free condensed milk to make this dessert healthier. You can also substitute vanilla yogurt for the condensed milk. In general, this dessert is relatively healthy compared to some of the other desserts out there.

Do I Really Need to Put in a White Layer?

If you just want a quick layered Jello dessert without condensed milk, go right ahead. While I like the white layers, you can also top red and blue layered Jello with whipped cream to get a slightly different red, white and blue dessert.

How Do I Make Sure There Are No Bubbles in My Layered Jello?

If your Jello begins to develop bubbles on the top, , here’s a quick fix. Once you’ve added the top layer of the Jello mix, tap the pan lightly against your kitchen countertop to pop existing air bubbles.

You can also use a spoon to gently dissolve the Jello mixture into the water. It creates fewer air bubbles than a whisk.

Serving & Storage Ideas

Got leftovers? Store them so that you can enjoy a fun dessert later! Carefully place your layered Jello cubes in an airtight container and refrigerate. They will stay good for up to five days.

Looking for some cool ways to serve them?

  • Cut them into cubes, set them out on a serving tray and garnish with whipped cream.
  • Make individual servings using mini dessert cups or glasses, layering the Jello into them the same way. Then each guest can reach for their own cup or glass.
  • Top each cube with a cute American flag topper!
