Two months ago it hit me that my office area was really boring! I had a fancy new desk (which you’ll be reading all about soon) and realized that I needed to do something different to liven up my space…I couldn’t have such an amazing desk in such bland surroundings! Since I’m a Floridian now, I wanted to go for a coastal look and started updating my office by creating this coastal themed message board.
I couldn’t stop there! Next up was a pencil holder to match the message board. I’d been using a plain silver mesh pencil holder and since I’m trying to stay on a budget, I chose to work with what I already had. First it needed a coat of white enamel paint. It was tricky because the paint kept clogging up the mesh but after some trial and error I learned that a sponge worked much better than a brush.
Next I looked in my box of goodies and found some fishing net that I had left over from a seafood appetizer post. I cut a piece and attached it with hot glue.
Since I was going with a coastal theme, my pencil holder would definitely need some shells. Luckily, we’d collected plenty from the beach and now I finally had a good use for them!
I painted all the shells blue and threw in a bigger one at the last minute. I love that this project was not only easy, it was very budget friendly too…the perfect combination!
Don’t forget to check back soon to see my all new office space. You’ll be amazed at what my new desk can do! What do you think I should fix up next? I still have plenty of shells left!
