We are big ice cream lovers but it’s only recently that we started making it ourselves. Until I made my first batch of no churn ice cream, I had no idea just how easy it was. The first flavor I ever made was white chocolate peppermint ice cream and it was so delish that I couldn’t wait to make more.
Like usual, life got in the way but now I’m on an ice cream making roll! I’ve got an awesome recipe for mint chocolate chip ice cream and just made cotton candy ice cream too (it’ll be posted soon)! Those were pretty awesome but this one is out of this world (sorry…couldn’t help myself!).
Galaxy Ice Cream
Your kids will seriously go nuts for this ice cream! It’s colorful and fun and perfect for parties or a unique everyday dessert. You can even replace the black and add different sprinkles to turn it into unicorn or rainbow ice cream.
The truth? While it tastes amazing, I really just love it because it’s so pretty! There’s something about colorful food that just makes it more fun to eat, don’t you think?
The beauty of making no churn ice cream is that you really only need a few ingredients. Once you’ve got those, you’re pretty much good to go.
Start by whipping heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then add sweetened condensed milk.
Add vanilla extract and mix well.
Divide the mixture into four separate bowls and add the strawberry frosting to one of them.
Stir a few extra drops of pink food coloring to the bowl with the frosting. I like to get it started with a toothpick or skewer, then use a spoon to mix it until the color is completely blended.
Now do the same with the remaining colors and add black, purple and teal to the remaining bowls.
Add spoonfuls of the ice cream mixture to a loaf pan or casserole dish. I’ve used both but the casserole dish definitely looks prettier!
Keep adding the mixture, spoonful by spoonful, until you’ve filled the pan.
Swirl the colors together, being careful not to overswirl (is that even a word?). The colors will blend together more as the ice cream freezes.
Top with sprinkles for the finishing touch.
Freeze for at least six hours but overnight for best results. Now all that’s left is to enjoy this awesome galaxy ice cream. You are definitely going to want seconds!
I know what you’re thinking…it’s almost too pretty to eat. We didn’t let that stop us though!
It’s even awesome when it gets a little messy. How badly do you want to stick a big ol’ spoon in this right now?!

Galaxy Ice Cream
Equipment
- Ice Cream Dessert Bowls and Spoons
- Stand mixer
Ingredients
- 28 ounces sweetened condensed milk 2 cans
- 8 ounces strawberry frosting
- 4 cups heavy whipping cream
- Food coloring gel – black, pink, teal and purple
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- Galaxy sprinkles
Instructions
- Pour heavy whipping cream into a large bowl. Use a mixer to whip until stiff peaks begin to form.
- Fold in condensed milk and mix until well blended.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
- Divide the mixture into four bowls. Add the pink strawberry frosting to one bowl, along with a few extra drops of pink food coloring. Add black, teal and purple food coloring to the other bowls. Use a wooden skewer, spoon or spatula to mix until the color is evenly distributed.
- Add the ice cream to loaf pan or casserole dish, a spoonful at a time. Then use a knife or wooden skewer to swirl the colors together. You don’t need to mix it too much because the colors will blend together more once it’s frozen.
- Add sprinkles for the finishing touch.
- Refrigerate at least 6 hours but ideally overnight. Enjoy
Notes
- Because of the frosting, this ice cream is a little softer than usual. We love it that way but you can leave out the frosting if you like (though the frosting does give the ice cream a delicious strawberry flavor).
- The black ice cream can get a little lost among the other colors. If you want it to stand out more, just use a larger portion of the ice cream mix with the black food coloring.
