Witch Hat Cookies Recipe

Halloween is just around the corner and we’re totally ready for some spooky celebrations! That’s why I’m loving these fun witch hat cookies! Made with just a few simple ingredients, they’re the perfect no bake treat for your next Halloween party, class parties or just a fun snack.

The kids will love decorating their own cookies but they’ll love eating them even more! This easy recipe is sometimes made with Hershey’s Kisses but we’re switching things up a bit! Plus, I love how the ice cream cones give a place to hide more candy!

These cookies make the perfect addition to my Halloween Charcuterie Board or my Halloween Treats Board! You can also serve them alongside other themed-treats like these delicious Candy Corn Meringues.

Why We Love This Recipe

  • A no-bake Halloween dessert that comes together in minutes.
  • Adorable, festive, and perfect for kids to help decorate.
  • Easy recipe that works with store-bought or homemade cookies and icing.

Ingredients

  • Pizzelle Cookies: Acts as a base for your witch hats.
  • Wilton Black Color Mist: Gives the cookies that spooky dark color.
  • Reese’s Pieces (or similar candy): Fun surprise inside each cone.
  • Orange Icing: Perfect for piping the trim and securing the pieces together.
  • Oreo Sugar Ice Cream Cones: Makes the tall, pointy witch hat shape.

How To Make Witch Hat Cookies

Step 1. Spray pizzelle cookies with color mist. Allow to dry.

Step 2. Fill each cone with Reese’s Pieces.

Step 3. Fill a piping bag with orange icing and pipe a line of icing on the top of each cone. If you don’t have piping bags, just use a plastic bag instead. Fill it with the icing, then cut off a corner of the bag.

Step 4: Place the cookie on a flat surface and add the cone to the center of each cookie.

Tip: If you’ll be transporting these, you may want to use orange candy melts instead of icing. They’ll secure the cones to the cookies more firmly.

Step 5: Add a line of piping around the edge of the cone, then add an orange Reese’s candy to the front to complete the look!

Storage Instructions

Store your cookies in a wide, shallow airtight container in a single layer. Keep the cookies in a cool, dry spot up to 3 days.

Variations And Add-ins

  • Brims: Swap the pizzelle cookies with fudge stripe cookies for a chocolate base.
  • Icing: Can’t find orange icing? You can use regular vanilla frosting with food coloring.
  • Tips: Use chocolate kisses instead of cones for mini witch hats.
  • Colors: Try different icing colors like purple or green for a more witchy vibe.
  • Filling: Fill cones with mini marshmallows or chocolate chips instead of Reese’s Pieces.
  • Decorations: Add Halloween sprinkles along the icing trim for extra detail.
  • Cones: Use sugar cones sprayed with the color mist if Oreo cones aren’t available.

FAQs

What’s the best way to set up a decorating station for kids?

I give each person a plate with one cookie base, one cone, candies, and a small cup of icing. This prevents “fighting over the frosting.” Easy peasy!

Can I use homemade icing instead of store-bought?

Absolutely. A simple buttercream or cream cheese frosting works well, just make sure it’s thick enough to hold shape. You can also use orange candy melts in place of the icing.

Can I make the hats in advance for a Halloween party?

Yes. Make them the night before and store in a single layer. The colors and candy filling will stay fresh.

It looks cute and easy. If you used Chocolate pizzelle cookies that would eleminate the spray.
