Love coastal decor? Take those seashells you found at the beach to make these beautiful DIY coastal bottles!

Part of the fun of going to the beach is collecting seashells, right? The problem is figuring out what to do with them once you actually have them. We’ve collected so many shells that I’ve decided it’s time to actually do something with them. It’s actually a lot of fun and I don’t know why I didn’t start doing this sooner!
When I came across these frosted bottles recently, I knew they’d make a great project. A little rope, some shells and hot glue (I LOVE hot glue) and I was ready to create these pretty coastal bottles.
What you’ll need:
- One glass bottle (I found this frosted one at Michaels)
- White or brown rope
- Seashells
- Glue gun & glue sticks

Starting with one end of the rope, wrap it around the bottle four times, then cut it where the two ends meet. Dab each end with hot glue to make sure the rope doesn’t fray. Glue one end of the rope to the bottom of the bottle, then wrap it around, adding a drop of glue every 1/2″ or so.

One side will look perfect, just like this.

The other side will be a little off but don’t worry, we’ll be covering it with shells.

Pick a big shell for the middle and glue it over the uneven rope. Next, glue smaller shells around the bigger one.

Since I had some brown rope on hand, I decided to decorate a second bottle too.

I’m not sure if I like the white or brown better. What do you think?

I wrapped rope around the top, the same as on bottom but with two strands instead of four. Then I glued more shells to the front, to cover up the uneven rope.

Now I have even more coastal decor for my Florida house…and I didn’t have to pay big money for it either!

These can be used as a vases, candle holders or anything else you can come up with. If you enjoy making your own coastal decor, it really doesn’t get much easier than this!

What do you do with all the seashells you collect at the beach? I think they would look really pretty in a Coastal Themed Bathroom, kitchen or even on the patio. Have you made any cool crafts with them?
