This clothespin turkey craft is such a cute idea for kids and it’s a fun way keep them entertained while you’re busy in the kitchen with Thanksgiving dinner!
There are so many things to love about the holiday season, from the food to the decorating! Of course, being the crafty type, I love all the cute crafts too. Last year we were all about the coffee filter turkeys because they always make an easy Thanksgiving craft.
This year we’re trying something new and upping our game with an adorable clothespin turkey craft. Even the littlest ones will have so much fun making this cute turkey craft with the help of the older kids (or the hubby can do it while watching his football…just don’t tell him it was my idea!)
The bonus? Thanksgiving crafts are the easiest way to keep them out of the kitchen when you’re trying to cook the real turkey! Plus, these turkeys make cute decor for your Thanksgiving dinner table.
Even the younger kids can make this cute turkey craft with the help of the older kids (or the hubby can do it while watching his football…just don’t tell him it was my idea!)

How To Make A Clothespin Turkey
First, you’ll want to gather your supplies. I love that these clothespin turkeys are so inexpensive. You can even find a lot of these items at your local dollar store. Anything you don’t find there can easily be found at the craft store.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Wooden clothespins (spring style)
- (2) Mini wood slices
- Felt craft sheets – red and yellow
- (2) Googly eyes
- Cardstock
- Yellow craft paint (we use acrylic paint)
- Orange craft paint
- Brown craft paint
- Burgandy craft paint
- Green craft paint
You’ll also need a few tools, including a glue gun, glue sticks, a paintbrush and a few other things you probably already have laying around the house.
Once you have everything handy, just follow these easy steps!

- Black marker
- Paper trimmer
Materials
Instructions
- Gather all your supplies.
- Separate the clothes pins from the metal springs.
- Spread nine clothespins evenly across your workspace, creating a fan shape. Use the hot glue gun to glue pairs of clothespins together, forming turkey feathers.
- Use acrylic craft paint to pain all sides of the clothespins with the following colors: one green, two yellow, two orange, two burgandy and two brown. Set aside to dry.
- Once the paint has dried, glue the painted clothespins together.
- Attach the two mini wood slices together, forming the turkey's head and body. Glue two wiggle eyes to the turkey face.
- To make the flag, measure and cut a strip of cardstock 1/2 inch wide X 6 inches long (you can use a paper cutter or a regular pair of scissors). Write your message with marker and roll the end around a wooden toothpick, securing with a dot of glue. Cut a triangle shape from the end.
- Glue the feathers to the turkey body. Cut a triangle beak from yellow felt and a red waddle from red felt. Glue them to the turkey's head.
- Finally, attach the flag. Your turkey is complete!
Notes
- Don't have felt handy? You can substitute yellow craft foam for the beak and red craft foam for the waddle or even use construction paper pieces.
- While we used traditional fall colors for our turkey's features, you can change up the paint colors for a brighter turkey if you prefer.
- Instead of the "Give Thanks" sign, you can add everyone's name to the the turkeys and use them as Thanksgiving place cards.
