Tips For the Best Baked Chicken
- If you have really thick chicken breasts, you may want to pound them out with a meat mallet into thinner pieces so they cook a little quicker and more evenly.
- This is a great recipe for a make ahead dish. Just prepare the chicken with the mayo mixture and parmesan then cover with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge overnight.
- If the parmesan cheese begins to brown too much, loosely tent the top of the baking dish with some aluminum foil.
- Fresh chicken breasts are like a blank canvas, so to prevent them from tasting bland, you’ll want to be generous with seasonings.
How Long Do I Cook Chicken Breasts in the Oven?
How long you bake the chicken all depends on the size of the chicken. If you’re using large chicken breasts, they will take longer than smaller ones. On average you can figure on approximately 25-30 minutes baking time for boneless skinless chicken breast halves.
To ensure you don’t end up with dried out or undercooked chicken you should bake chicken until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit on a meat thermometer you’ve inserted in the thickest part of the breasts.
Are Chicken Breasts Healthy?
Chicken breasts are one of the best foods when you’re looking for low fat and low carb meal options. Not only is it a super lean source of protein, it’s also a great source of niacin, selenium, and phosphorus that can be linked to numerous health benefits. Mayo Parmesan Chicken Variations
- Mayo: We used 1/2 cup mayonnaise, but you can add Greek yogurt or sour cream for a little tanginess.
- Chicken: You can use chicken thighs, chicken cutlets or chicken tenders. Just be sure to adjust the cooking time accordingly.
- Cheeses: You can use several types of cheese or even a combination of cheeses. Asiago, Romano and Manchego are all great choices. If you want a gooey cheese topping, add mozzarella cheese to the top of the chicken about 5 minutes before you take it out of the oven.
- Toppings: The parmesan cheese forms a golden crust when it bakes up, but if you want to add a little extra crunch, sprinkle bread crumbs, panko bread crumbs or Italian bread crumbs in with the parmesan cheese.
- Seasonings: It’s really fun to play around with any seasonings you’d like. Add a little lemon pepper or Italian seasoning to the creamy mayo mixture. If you like a little added heat, you can add a pinch cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce to the mayo.
