Halloween season is just around the corner and everyone in my house is pretty excited! We’ve done a little decorating, planned our Halloween costumes, and now we’re working on some new Halloween recipes, including an easy dinner idea the kids will love.

Until now, I seemed to have more Halloween desserts then anything else (these Candy Corn Pretzels are a favorite) so now I’m changing it up. Mummy Pizza couldn’t be a more perfect Halloween dinner idea before you head out trick-or-treating.

It makes great Halloween party food too, especially when you serve them with witch hat cookies for dessert!

Ingredients and variations

Sandwich Rolls – We used hamburger rolls to make our Halloween pizza but you can use English muffins or bread slices. You could even use a whole wheat baguette to make French bread pizza.

Marinara Sauce – You can’t have pizza without the marinara…or can you? We’ve been known to use regular spaghetti sauce or tomato sauce in a pinch!

String Cheese – String cheese is best for this recipe because of the effect you get when you pull it apart. However, if you don’t have string cheese, you can cut thin strips from a chunk of mozzarella cheese instead.

Pepperoni – This is totally optional. Kids can substitute other pizza toppings or make a traditional cheese pizza instead.

Candy Eyes – Don’t have candy eyes handy? Sliced black olives work great for the mummy’s eyes too.

How To Make Mummy Pizza

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350° and place open sandwich roll face up on a cookie sheet. Brush with melted butter, season with garlic powder and bake for 5 minutes, or until the top of the roll is golden brown.

Step 2: Remove rolls from the oven and top with marinara sauce.

Step 3: Add pepperoni to each one. You can use regular size or mini pepperoni slices.

Step 4: Pull each mozzarella stick apart so that you now have strips of cheese instead and use them to top the pizzas. Don’t worry about making the cheese perfectly straight. It’ll actually look more like mummy bandages if it’s a little scattered.

Step 5: Place the pizzas back into the oven for 10 more minutes, or until the cheese melts.

Step 6: Add candy eyes and your mummy pizza is ready to eat.

You can never go wrong with pizza and the perfect dinner when you want fun Halloween-themed food. It also makes a cute after school snack. Invite your child’s friends over and let them each make their own mummy pizzas.
