How to Make Christmas Jello Shots
Step 1: Place Jello shot cups or plastic shot glasses on a shallow baking sheet that fits into the refrigerator.
Step 2: Bring 1½ cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove the hot water from the heat and whisk in the green Jello mix, stirring until the Jello is completely dissolved.
Step 3: Stir ½ cup vodka into the gelatin mixture.
Step 4: Pour the green Jello evenly into the plastic cups, filling each about halfway to the top. Move them to the refrigerator to chill for 2 hours.
Step 5: After the green Jello has set, prepare the red layer. Bring 1½ cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Remove water from the heat and whisk in the red Jello, stirring until dissolved.
Step 6: Stir in ½ cup of vodka.
Step 7: Allow the red Jello mixture to cool completely, then pour it evenly into the shot cups on top of the green layer. Move the shots back to the refrigerator to chill for another 2 hours.
Step 8: Before serving, top with whipped cream and Christmas sprinkles.
Tips & Tricks
- Be careful not to add too much vodka to your shots, or the Jello will not set properly.
- You can substitute a different type of alcohol for the vodka. Rum and tequila will both work great in this recipe, or you can use and vanilla vodka in place of the plain vodka.
- To make a non-alcoholic version, substitute cold water for the vodka.
- Be sure that the green Jello layer is completely set and the red Jello mixture has cooled to room temperature before adding the red layer. Otherwise, your colors may run together.
- If you don’t have Christmas sprinkles, try garnishing with some plain green sprinkles or green sanding sugar and a maraschino cherry.
- If you’re in a hurry and don’t have time to wait for the layers to set, you can simply make half the shots green (lime Jello shots) and the other half red (strawberry Jello shots).
How Do I Store Christmas Jello Shots?
You can store these in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. For best results, use shot cups with lids or place them in an airtight container. Don’t add the whipped cream and sprinkles until you’re ready to serve them.
