Holiday Jello Shots Tips & Variations

  • Be careful not to add too much vodka to your shots, or the Jello will not set properly.
  • You can substitute a different type of alcohol for the vodka. White rum and tequila will both work great in this recipe, or you can use and vanilla vodka in place of the plain vodka.
  • To make a fun and festive non-alcoholic version, substitute cold water for the vodka.
  • Be sure that the green Jello layer has had time in the refrigerator to set and that the red Jello mixture has cooled to room temperature before adding the red layer. Otherwise, your colors may run together.
  • If you don’t have Christmas sprinkles, try garnishing with some plain green sprinkles or green sanding sugar and a maraschino cherry.
  • If you’re in a hurry and don’t have time to wait for the layers to set, you can simply make half the shots green (lime Jello shots) and the other half red (strawberry Jello shots).

How Do I Store Christmas Jello Shots?

You can store these in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. For best results, use the 2 ounce cups with lids or place them in an airtight container. Don’t add the whipped cream and sprinkles until you’re ready to serve them.

Hints: wait till jello cools to add vodka or the alcohol will evaporate. Add a 1/2 to full packet of plain gelatin to make sure it will jell.
