Why We Love This Recipe

  • Easy – Just a few simple ingredients and a few minutes of mixing is all it takes — no baking or extra chilling required!
  • Budget-Friendly – Made with affordable ingredients, it’s a fun party treat that won’t break the bank.
  • Versatile – You can easily switch up the colors to match any theme! Try earth tones for a dinosaur party, orange, purple, and green for Halloween, or red and green for Christmas.

Ingredients

Bowls containing food coloring, sprinkles, powdered sugar, cream cheese, and Cool Whip are arranged on a marble surface.
  • Cream Cheese (softened): Gives the dip a rich, creamy texture and that classic tangy cheesecake flavor.
  • Cool Whip: Keeps it light, fluffy, and perfectly scoopable.
  • Powdered Sugar: Adds just the right amount of sweetness to balance the tang from the cream cheese.
  • Food Coloring (pink, purple, and teal): Creates those fun, vibrant swirls that make the dip look magical.
  • Unicorn Sprinkles: Add a little sparkle and extra unicorn magic to every bite!

How To Make Unicorn Dip (a.k.a. Unicorn Fluff)

Step 1: Place softened cream cheese in the bowl of your stand mixer and whip for about one minute. (I like to do it until all the lumps are removed). Add powdered sugar and mix well.

Fun Money Mom Tip – Forget to soften the cream cheese ahead of time? (Join the club…I forget at least 50% of the time!) To quickly soften your cream cheese, seal the package in a sandwich bag and place it in a bowl of warm water for about 5 minutes.

Step 2: Add Cool Whip and fold just until the two are well combined.

Step 3. Separate the mixture into three bowls. Add food coloring to each bowl and stir until well blended.

Step 4. Scoop the mixtures into a bowl, making sure that they are side by side, not stacked.

Three bowls of colorful frosting—purple, blue, and pink—sit on a marble surface, each next to a matching bottle of food coloring.

Step 5. Swirl the colors together with a butter knife until you get that perfect rainbow look. Be careful not to swirl too much or your colors will start to blend together into one.

Step 6. Top with sprinkles just before serving and enjoy!

How To Store

If you’re lucky enough to have any left over, place the mixture in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3-4 days.

What To Serve With Unicorn Dip

If you’re making a dip, you’ll need dippers! These are some of our favorites, but feel free to add your own.

  • Graham crackers
  • Nilla Wafers
  • Animal crackers (or these Mythical Creature cookies)
  • Pretzels
  • Waffle cone pieces
  • Strawberries
  • Apple slices

Tips & Variations

  • Be sure fold in the Cool Whip gently and avoid overmixing. This will help keep your dip light and fluffy.
  • Don’t add the sprinkles too soon. If you’re making this for later, add them just before serving to keep the colors bright and prevent bleeding.
  • Switch it up by adding some fun flavors like cotton candy extract or cake batter extract. You’ll want to mix it into the cream cheese before adding the Cool Whip. Just remember, a little goes a long way.
  • Add some fun extras like chocolate chips, mini M&M’s or colored mini marshmallows.

Notes

  • If you forget to soften the cream cheese ahead of time, don’t worry…it happens to the best of us! Just seal the wrapped cream cheese in a sandwich bag and place it in a bowl of warm water for about 5 minutes.
  • Wait to add the sprinkles until just before serving. That way they’ll stay bright and you can avoid the colors bleeding into the dip.
