Halloween Dessert Dip Recipe

I love a dessert that just screams Halloween and it doesn’t get much better than this festive dessert dip! This creepy, bubbling cauldron, filled with ghostly green dip and dotted with edible googly eyes, seems to watch your every move!

This spooky Halloween treat isn’t just fun to make, it’s also incredibly delicious thanks to a secret ingredient…Twinkies. Mixed with cream cheese and a few other simple ingredients, it’s a light, fluffy, and perfectly sweetened dip that’s guaranteed to magically disappear!

Always a big hit at parties, I like to pair it with dippers like cookies, crackers, and fruit. Want even more dessert dip ideas? You’ll also want to check out my Reese’s Peanut Butter Dip and Easy Dunkaroo Dip.

Why We Love This Recipe

  • Perfect for Halloween parties: The creepy green color and silly decorations make it a hit for any Halloween bash.
  • Super easy to whip up: Just a few simple steps and ingredients, and you’re all set.
  • Secret ingredient: Twinkies add a surprisingly delicious twist that’ll have everyone guessing.

Ingredients

Ingredients for a dessert include Twinkies, cream cheese, milk, Cool Whip, white icing, pearl sprinkles, gummy worms, and candy eyes arranged on a white wooden surface.
  • Twinkies
  • Cream Cheese, softened
  • Whipped topping
  • Milk
  • White Icing
  • Neon Green Gel Food Coloring
  • White Pearl Sprinkles
  • Gummy Worms
  • Candy Eyeballs
  • Assortment of Shortbread and vanilla wafer cookies, pretzels and graham crackers

You’ll also need a black cauldron. The one I used was about 3 1/2″ wide. Be sure to wash it well before filling it.

How To Make These Festive Halloween Dip

Step 1. Start by adding your unwrapped Twinkies, cream cheese, Cool Whip, and milk to a large mixing bowl. Mix on high until well combined and smooth.

Step 2. Add the neon green food coloring a little at a time, until you get the color of green that you like. I used about a teaspoon.

Step 4. Pour the mixture into your plastic cauldron.

Step 5. Next, add ½ teaspoon of neon green food coloring to the icing, and mix until well combined.

Step 6. Add the frosting over the top and down the side, creating drips, as shown.

Step 7. Add gummy worms and candy eyes to the top.

Step 8. Sprinkle white pearls over the top to create “bubbles”!

NOTE: This recipe makes enough to fill two average-sized cauldrons. Instead of using two, you can keep the leftover dip in the fridge and refill it as your little ghosts and goblins gobble up the dip.

Dippers

You can use whatever you like as dippers but these are some of our favorites:

  • Graham crackers
  • Animal crackers, chocolate animal crackers
  • Nilla wafers
  • Sugar cookies
  • Pretzels
  • Biscotti
  • Fresh fruit, especially apples

Storage Instructions

Cover the cauldron with plastic wrap or transfer the dip to an airtight container. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

  • Peanut Butter Cups: Chop up some mini peanut butter cups for a delicious, nutty flavor.
  • Mini marshmallows: Toss in some mini marshmallows for extra fluffiness.

FAQs

Can I make this dessert dip ahead of time?

Absolutely! Prepare the dip a day in advance and keep it covered in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.

What can I use instead of a plastic cauldron?

If you don’t have a plastic cauldron, you can use any large serving bowl or dish. Just remember to decorate the rim with icing and sprinkles will keep that witches brew feel!

Can I freeze this dip?

This dip is best enjoyed fresh, but you can freeze it if needed. Just be aware that the texture might change a bit once thawed.

Can I make this recipe without a stand of electric hand mixer?

If you don’t have a mixer, you can mix everything by hand with a whisk or spoon. Just be sure to soften the cream cheese to room temperature first. It might take a bit more effort to smooth the large clumps, but it will work just fine.
