If you’re a white chocolate fan, this milkshake is about to become your new obsession, and honestly, it might already be mine. It’s thick, creamy, and packed with rich white chocolate flavor that tastes like the best combination of vanilla and white chocolate in a glass. If you love my classic vanilla milkshake, this one is right up your alley!

My little trick is melting the white chocolate chips with heavy cream first, which only takes about two minutes on the stove and makes the whole shake silky smooth. From there, everything goes into the blender and it’s done in seconds.

Why We Love This Recipe

  • Rich white chocolate flavor: Melting the white chocolate chips with heavy cream gives this milkshake a smooth, indulgent flavor you can’t get any other way.
  • Done in 10 minutes: A quick two minutes on the stove, 30 seconds in the blender, and it’s ready to go.
  • Just a few ingredients: No fancy ingredients required…just white chocolate chips, heavy cream, vanilla bean ice cream, and milk.

Ingredients

Bowls of white chocolate chips, vanilla bean ice cream, and milk, with a small pitcher of heavy cream on a white surface. Each item is labeled.
  • White chocolate chips: Use your favorite brand – the higher quality, the better, but store-brand chips work just fine too.
  • Heavy cream: The fat content in heavy cream is what makes the melted chocolate mixture smooth and perfect. You don’t want to swap that out.
  • Vanilla bean ice cream: Vanilla bean works best for this milkshake. French vanilla works great too.
  • Whole milk: Whole milk gives you that perfect creamy consistency. You can also us almond milk if you prefer.
  • Whipped cream & white chocolate chips: For topping. Go a little crazy…I’ll never tell!

How To Make A White Chocolate Milkshake

Step 1. Add the white chocolate chips and heavy cream to a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until just melted, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cook completely.

Step 2. Once the white chocolate mixture is cool, add it to your blender along with the vanilla bean ice cream and milk.

Step 3. Blend for about 15-30 seconds on full speed, until everything is well-combined.

Step 4. Pour into glasses and top with whipped cream and extra white chocolate chips.

Storage Instructions

This milkshake is best enjoyed right away. Storing it isn’t recommended because you’ll lose that thick, creamy texture that makes it so good.

Too cute not to share: One day when I was teaching kindergarten, I looked over at the bookbags and noticed one was leaking a white milky substance. Upon further inspection, I discovered that one of my little girls had decided to save her ice cream for later. She got her first lesson in how NOT to store food that day!

Variations And Add-ins

  • Ice cream: Vanilla bean is the go-to, but French vanilla works just as well.
  • Milk: Both whole milk and almond milk work great in this recipe.
  • White chocolate: Can’t find white chocolate chips? A white chocolate bar works too…just break it up and measure out half a cup.
  • Extra toppings: A drizzle of caramel sauce on top takes this milkshake next level.

Tips And Tricks

  • Don’t overcook the chocolate: You just want the chips to melt but remove them from the heat as soon as they’re smooth. Overheating white chocolate can cause it to seize up and turn grainy.
  • Let the mixture cool completely: Adding warm chocolate to ice cream will melt everything too fast. Give it time to cool before blending.
  • Don’t overblend: 15–30 seconds is all you need. Overblending warms up the milkshake and makes it too thin.
  • Chill your glasses: Pop your glasses in the freezer for a few minutes before pouring to keep everything extra cold.

Can I use a white chocolate bar instead of chips?

Yes! You’ll need about ½ cup worth. Break the bar into pieces and measure it out in a half-cup measuring cup before melting.

Do I have to melt the chocolate first?

It’s definitely worth the extra step. Melting it first gives you a smoother shake, and adding hard chocolate chips straight to the blender can put unnecessary wear on the motor.

What if my milkshake is too thick?

Add a splash more milk and give it a quick blend. Start with just a tablespoon or two so you don’t thin it out too much.
