Step 2. Next, cover the chocolate layer with jumbo marshmallows until there is no space seen under the marshmallows. Fit them in tightly if you have to.

Step 3. Place the pan in the oven for about 10 minutes or until the tops become slightly browned.

Step 4. After 10 minutes, turn the oven to broil and let the tops of the marshmallows brown a bit more. You can decide how toasted you like them.

Note: Watch closely at this point because it should only take a couple of minutes.

Step 5. While the dip is in the oven, you can start arranging the snacks. Start with the outer edge, leaving space for the smores pan. Alternate the chocolate Oreos and Chips Ahoy cookies.

Can I Make the S’mores Dip in Advance?

You sure can! You can cook it, allow it to cool and cover it with aluminum foil sprayed with a little nonstick cooking spray. Place it in the fridge until ready to reheat it.
Before serving, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Uncover the dip and place it in the warm oven until it’s nice and gooey again.

Smores Board Variations

  • Candy bars: We used classic Hershey’s bars for the bottom layer or the dip but you can use milk chocolate chips or mix them with white chocolate chips. You can even add peanut butter chips. For extra chocolate goodness, place a few Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or Snickers Bars around the board for snacking.
  • Cookies: You can add all sorts of cookies with this smores board. Fudge stripe cookies, extra chocolate chip cookies, Nutter Butter cookies, Chessmen Cookies and shortbread cookies make a great choice.
  • Crackers: We used regular honey graham crackers, but feel free to use chocolate graham crackers, Teddy Grahams or even animal crackers.
  • Fresh fruit: Add a pop of flavor to the board with fresh strawberries, chunks of bananas, or a small bowl of sliced pineapples.
  • Other add-ins: You can add a couple of small bowls of peanut butter or marshmallow fluff next to the board for extra dipping goodness.

S’mores Tips and Tricks

  • The cast iron pan helps the dip retain heat, but if you don’t have a cast iron skillet you can cook it in small baking dish.
  • If you’re feeding a really large crowd, you can double the dip recipe and make it in large pan. Then instead of serving on the board, just set it beside the board within easy dipping range.
  • To be sure you have the perfect ratio of chocolate to marshmallows, you really need the marshmallows packed tight in the pan.
  • If you want to make clean up a bit easier, line the pan with foil.
