Football Themed Charcuterie Board

If you’re looking for an easy way to impress your game day guests, this Football Charcuterie Board is your MVP. Loaded with all your favorite cheeses, meats, crispy veggies, and even a football-shaped cheese ball, it’s guaranteed to steal the show.

What I love most about this game day platter is how easy it is to make with a few store-bought items. You can even customize it by swapping everything from the chips and cheese to the type of veggies. And with a fun football theme, it’s the kind of snack board that will have everyone talking!

Why We Love This Recipe

  • Fun football theme: The football-shaped cheese ball makes it the perfect centerpiece for any tailgate party or game day celebration.
  • Great variety: With savory meats, cheeses, fresh veggies, and other crunchy snacks, it’s got something for everyone.
  • Easy to assemble: Just make the cheeseball, grab a few store-bought snacks, then arrange them on a tray. It doesn’t get much simpler than that!

Ingredients

A wooden tray with crackers, garlic crostini toast, olives, celery, sugar snap peas, baby carrots, mixed nuts, cheese, salami, pretzel bites, pretzels, chips, and a football cheese ball.
  • Football Cheese Ball
  • Salami
  • Potato chips
  • Old-thyme pretzels
  • Colby jack cheese cubes
  • Celery sticks
  • Baby carrots
  • Sugar snap peas
  • Mixed nuts
  • Green olives
  • Assorted crackers
  • Garlic crostini toasts
  • Pretzel Bites (see notes on how to make them look like mini footballs)

How To Make This Football Themed Charcuterie Board

Step 1. Set the prepared football cheese ball in the center of a 20×13 inch serving tray.

Step 2. Place small dishes or ramekins of olives and mixed nuts in opposite corners.

Step 3. Next, place sugar snap peas and baby carrots in the two empty corners.

Step 4. Add celery sticks along the bottom, then fill in the lower right corner with football-themed pretzel bites. I used store bought pretzel bites from my grocer’s deli section but if you have a few extra minutes, you can make your own homemade pretzel bites (they’re SO good!).

Note: I love decorating my pretzels to look like tiny footballs and it only takes a few extra minutes! Just place one piece of shredded mozzarella in the center of each one, then add two smaller pieces over the top to resemble the stitches on a football. Finally, bake for 5 minutes at 350 degrees in the oven and allow to cool.

Step 5. Take each piece of salami and fold it into fours. Then stack the pieces together and
secure them with a toothpick. Place them along the left side of the football cheese ball.

Step 6. Next, arrange the cheese cubes around the mixed nuts.

Storage Instructions

To keep charcuterie fresh, it’s best to store each item separately in Ziploc bags or airtight containers. Meats, cheeses, and veggies should be refrigerated, but the crackers and chips can be kept at room temperature.

Tips and Tricks

  • For the board: I used a serving tray similar to this one from Amazon, but you can use any large rectangle food-safe platter you have on hand. The key is having enough space to add all the snacks with over-crowding them.
  • Cheese ball: Shape the cheese ball ahead of time and refrigerate for a few hours. You could even make it the day before. This not only firms it up to help it keep it’s shape but it also saves you a little time on the day of the party.
  • Veggie prep: If you can’t already tell, I’m all about saving time so I often buy the pre-cut celery from the produce section. If you’re using carrot sticks instead of baby carrots, you can buy those pre-sliced too.
  • Crackers and chip choices: To make the board look more interesting, use crackers and chips in a variety of shapes and colors.
  • Tools: Make it convenient for guests to serve themselves by adding small tongs, forks, or party picks around the board. Be sure to set out small plates too.
  • Keep it fresh: Cover the board with plastic wrap until ready to serve, just to be sure everything stays crisp and fresh.

Variations and Add-ins

  • Fruits: Feel free to add fresh grapes or berries for a pop of sweetness.
  • Cheeses: Add other cheeses like Gouda, sharp cheddar or even horseradish cheese (my favorite) for variety.
  • Dips: Include small bowls of Sour Cream Veggie Dip, ranch dip, hummus, or bean dip for other dipping options.
  • Meats: Swap salami for pepperoni slices or prosciutto.
  • Bread: Use baguette slices or breadsticks in place of crostini toasts.
  • Pickled finger food: Cornichons (mini pickles), pickled okra, or pickled onions add tangy flavor and crunch.
  • Decor: Use small flags or party picks in team colors for an extra fun touch.

FAQs

How much charcuterie should I plan per person?

A good rule of thumb is about 3-4 ounces of meat and cheese per person, plus plenty of crackers, veggies, and other snacks to round it out. This board will serve about 6-8 people depending on what other appetizers you serve with it.

What can I do with leftovers?

You can snack on it the next day or use the leftover meats and cheeses in sandwiches and toss the veggies into a salad. Simply save the crackers to enjoy later.

How do I keep celery and carrots from drying out overnight?

If you want to prep the veggies in advance, wrap them in damp paper towels and place them in the fridge. This will help keep them from drying out until you’re ready to add them to your board.
