Tips & Tricks

  • For the red and green layers, you can substitute any flavors of green or red Jello that you like. You can also swap the green Jello for a blue layer, and you’ll have the perfect layered shot for the fourth of July or Memorial Day.
  • Spray a bit of coconut oil in each shot cup before pouring in the bottom layer of Jello. This is an easy way to ensure that the shots come out easily.
  • Be sure not to add too much alcohol or your shots may not set properly.
  • If you don’t have tequila, you can also make these shots with rum, vodka, or any type of alcohol that you prefer.

How Do I Store Mexican Flag Jello Shots?

Store your shots covered or in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They should keep for 4-5 days after you make them, but will taste best if consumed within a day or two.

How Long Can They Stay at Room Temperature?

If you’re serving these at a party, they can stay out of the refrigerator for about 2-3 hours at the most. I recommend serving them in batches and refilling as needed.

What’s the Best Tequila to Use?

The best kind is any kind that you like! But if you’re not sure what to get, I’d go with a mid-priced brand like Sauza or Jose Cuervo.
