This Mini Valentine Cake has a special surprise in the middle, making this Valentine’s Day treat extra fun!
Valentine’s Day is coming and when I was grocery shopping recently, I came across these Valentine colored M&Ms. I was inspired to make something with them. I’d been looking for a good excuse to use my mini cake pans and these would be perfect for a Valentine’s cake with a hidden chocolate surprise!
One of the things I love most about Valentine’s Day is all the sweet treats that go along with it and I couldn’t wait to get stared on my newest creation. I’ve made everything from layered Valentine’s Day bark (seriously delicious!) to white chocolate mousse but I had a feeling that this was going to top them all.
How To Make A Mini Valentine Cake
I like to make things easy so when I make cake, I usually just use a box mix. They’re pretty yummy so why try to top them? I made the mix according to the directions and filled my cake pans. Since one box of mix makes eight mini-cakes, I used two cakes and froze the rest for later.
Before you start, use a cake leveler on the bottom of both cakes, just to be sure they’re flat. Then fill one of the cakes with as much candy as you possibly can. There’s no such thing as too many M&M’s, right?
Frost the cake around the candy and place the second one on top.
Next, frost the entire cake, then start adding M&Ms (don’t worry about frosting it neatly…it’ll be covered with M&M’s anyway). I made stripes of color going around the cake but feel free to use your imagination and decorate it however you like.
Finally, you can add a few more M&M’s and some Valentine sprinkles on top.
Now you’re ready to surprise your Valentine with this sweet treat!
Since I made this cake for my hubby and girls but the girls enjoyed it most of all! It was fun to see how excited they were when they discovered a fun candy surprise in the middle. Ever since I made Rainbow Surprise cupcakes last year, they love when I make treats with a little mystery.
One cake was exactly the right size for the four of us, though there were definitely no leftovers! Until now, these pretty candy hearts were my favorite Valentine’s day treat but after making this mini cake, I’m not so sure anymore…
