📖 How to Make Christmas Peppermint Oreo Pops
Step 1. Start by crushing up peppermint candy or mini candy canes with a rolling pin or a food processor until it’s in really small bits.
Step 2. Place the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt chocolate in the microwave in 20 to 30-second increments, stirring between each interval.
Step 3. While the chocolate is melting, separate each Oreo cookie.
Step 4. Flatten one end of the paper straw and dip the flattened end in the melted chocolate.
Step 5. Lightly press the straw into the Oreo cream filling, then place the Oreo top on top of the straw and gently press. Repeat with the rest of the Oreos.
Step 6. Dip each cookie in the melted chocolate, making sure the whole thing is fully coated.
Step 7. Lift the cookie out of the melted chocolate with a fork and lightly tap the handle of the fork on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate from the cookie.
Step 8. Transfer the dipped Oreo pop to a piece of parchment paper or wax paper and immediately top with crushed peppermint.
Step 9. Allow the chocolate on the peppermint Oreos to harden before serving.
Oreo Pop Variations
- Chocolate chips: White chocolate and peppermint are the perfect way to say Merry Christmas! We used white chocolate chips, but you can also use almond bark or white candy melts.
- Extract: Add even more peppermint flavor by adding a drop or two of peppermint extract to the melted chocolate. Always remember to add extract after the chocolate has melted completely. It’s best to use oil-based extracts when working with melted candy.
- Cookies: We used traditional chocolate Oreos, but you can use Golden Oreos if you prefer. Just make sure you don’t pick up regular Oreos. You need the double stuffed ones to make room for the straw.
- Chocolate toppings: Go all out by adding an extra chocolate drizzle over the top of the peppermint candy. You can use milk chocolate, dark chocolate or even more white chocolate that you’ve added food coloring to.
- Toppings: You can use other types of crushed candy. Depending on the holiday or celebration, you can add a fun twist by using festive holiday sprinkles or sanding sugar.
How Do I Store Oreo Christmas Pops?
You can store them at room temperature in airtight containers for about a week. They also freeze really well, though to make it easier, you may prefer to leave out the straw handle.
Why Is My White Chocolate Seizing?
If you’ve ever melted white chocolate only for it to turn out clumpy and dry instead of smooth and creamy, that’s a sign that it has seized. The number one reason that happens is because it has come in contact with water.
To prevent this from happening, make sure you start with a clean and really dry bowl. Heat the chocolate slowly in 30 second increments, stirring each time. This will keep steam from building up in the microwave and dripping into the melted chocolate.
