This No Bake Chocolate Mousse tastes like something from a fancy restaurant, but it’s ridiculously easy to make. Melted chocolate folds into sweetened whipped cream for a light, fluffy dessert that tastes like it took way more effort than it did!

When I first started dating my husband, I wanted to impress him with a home cooked meal, so I made this chocolate mousse for dessert. He ate every bite and even complimented me on it, and it wasn’t until much later that I found out he doesn’t even like chocolate.
If it can win over someone who isn’t even a chocolate person, just imagine what it will do for the chocolate lovers in your life. This easy 4 ingredient chocolate mousse comes together with very little time and effort, and best of all, it’s completely no bake.
This mousse doesn’t have to stop at the bowl. Spoon it into a Graham Cracker Pie Crust for an instant chocolate mousse pie, or layer it with crumbled Brownie Mix Cookies for a triple chocolate trifle that any chocolate lover will go crazy for.

Why You’ll Love My Chocolate Mousse Recipe
- This easy mousse recipe is loaded with incredibly rich and chocolatey flavor from two different type of chocolates.
- It’s a no bake dessert made with just 4 simple ingredients, so it’s basically impossible to mess up. If you’re into easy no bake treats, you’ll love this No Bake Pineapple Fluff too!

Ingredients

- Sweet baking chocolate
- Semi-sweet chocolate
- Heavy whipping cream
- Powdered sugar
How to Make 4 Ingredient Chocolate Mousse
Step 1. Using a sharp knife and a cutting board, roughly chop the sweet baking chocolate.
Step 2. Combine sweet and semi-sweet chocolate in a saucepan. Melt over medium heat, stirring frequently.
Step 3. Let cool until just above room temperature but still melted

Step 4. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer with the whisk attachment, beat the cup of heavy cream at medium speed until foamy.
Step 5. Gradually add powdered sugar and continue beating until semi-stiff peaks begin to form.

Step 6. Gently fold whipped cream into cooled chocolate mixture

Step 7. Using a spoon or a frosting bag with icing tip (my recommendation), fill small glasses or dessert cups with the chocolate mousse and chill. Enjoy!

How To Store Chocolate Mousse
Store leftover mousse in the refrigerator in an airtight container or in a glass bowl covered with plastic wrap. It can be stored for up to 3 to 4 days, though after two days you may start to lose some of that light, fluffy texture.
Freezing is not recommended since the mousse can change texture as it thaws.
What’s The Difference Between Chocolate Pudding And Chocolate Mousse?
Though we love both, chocolate pudding is a stovetop custard made with milk, sugar, and a thickener like cornstarch. Chocolate mousse gets its light, airy texture from folding whipped cream into melted chocolate, which gives it a much lighter, fluffier, melt in your mouth bite than pudding.

Tips And Tricks For Making The Best Chocolate Mousse
- Because you make this recipe with only 4 ingredients, be sure to use a high-quality chocolate.
- To make things a little easier, if you prefer, you can melt the chocolate in the microwave. Melt on a low setting in a microwave-safe bowl.
- If you prefer milk chocolate or dark chocolate, you can substitute the semi-sweet for either one, or use a combination of both.
- You can eat this no bake mousse immediately but it’s really best to let it chill in the fridge for a few hours before serving.
- While the mousse is in the fridge, you’ll want to keep it covered with plastic wrap, so it doesn’t pick up smells from other foods.
- A pro tip to help intensify the deep chocolate flavor is to add a little instant espresso powder. You only need a teaspoon, and you’ll be amazed by how much richer it makes the chocolate taste.
- Half and half and heavy cream are not the same thing and for best results with this recipe, it’s important you use full fat heavy cream. The more fat, the more stable the whipped cream will be.

What Toppings Pair Best With Chocolate Mousse
Now that you know how to make mousse, here are some ideas for taking it to the next level! While it’s absolutely delicious served as is, you can add a drizzle of my homemade butterscotch sauce to make it even more decadent! You also might want to try some of these topping ideas:
- Whipped cream (try my stabilized whipped cream recipe)
- Chocolate ganache or chocolate syrup
- Mini white chocolate chips
- Dusting of cocoa powder
- Crushed chocolate cookies
- Additional chocolate shavings
- Fresh raspberries

FAQs
Yes! This mousse is a fantastic make-ahead dessert. Prepare it the day before, then store it in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
The number one reason could be because you’ve let the cream sit out too long. You want to use cold heavy cream, right out of the fridge, for the fat to be able emulsify and maintain fluffy peaks.
This can happen if the melted chocolate is too warm when you combine it with the whipped cream. Be sure to let it cool slightly first. Also, be sure your cream is whipped into stiff peaks before combining the two.
