We are pretty big on Harry Potter in my house. We’ve read the books, seen the movies and even threw a Harry Potter party for my oldest a few years ago. Plus, we’ve made some pretty awesome Harry Potter recipes, including my favorite, Golden Snitch Peanut Butter Balls!
Know what we love even more than the food? The crafts! From our Harry Potter valentine box to a Golden Snitch pumpkin, we can’t get enough!
DIY Harry Potter Wand
That’s why I’m loving these cool DIY Harry Potter wands! They’re so much fun and you can get as creative as you want. These are perfect for some movie night fun or even a Harry Potter birthday party. The beauty of it is that no two wands will turn out exactly the same…each one has it’s own special magic!
All you need are a few supplies…sticks, paint, glue and some decorative pieces. The way you put it all together is totally up to you.
How To Make A Harry Potter Wand
It all starts with choosing the right stick. You don’t want one that’s too perfect because the knobs and imperfections are what give these wizard wands a more rustic, natural feel. Be sure the bark is tightly attached though. Otherwise it may flake off, taking some of the magic with it. (You can also make these wands with chopsticks)
You can use the hot glue to sculpt your wand into different shapes, piling up layers to make gems look deep set or create sections that are slightly wider. Use different paints, glitters and even ribbon to make the want even more unique.

DIY Harry Potter Wand
Why not let your little Hogwarts fans make their very own DIY Harry Potter wand! It's a perfect activity for a Harry Potter party, movie night or just some rainy day fun!
Materials
Instructions
- Start by making the handle. Apply hot glue around the bottom third of your stick, adding extra for a better grip and more texture.
- Using the hot glue, apply gems and adjust the shape of the wand as needed.
- Paint the handle and top of the wand in your desired color(s). Set aside to dry for a few minutes.
- Use metallic paint to lightly brush over the raised areas, giving the want an antique look. Give the wand a couple minutes more to dry.
- If you want to add a little sparkle, use Mod Podge to attach glitter, gems, ribbon, rope and/or suede.
- Let your wands dry overnight (or if you need to make magic happen in a hurry, dry them with a hairdryer). Once dry, you're ready to start casting spells!

The best thing about this Harry Potter craft is that it’s just as much fun for the grownups as it is for the kids.
What kind of wand would you make?
